Trainer Henry de Bromhead will consider appealing against the result of Saturday's Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown after Special Tiara passed the post second behind Sire De Grugy.
Special Tiara led for much of the two-mile journey in the Grade One contest before being headed by the Gary Moore-trained Sire De Grugy before the home turn.
However, he was rallying for pressure and looked in with every chance before being broadsided in mid-air by the eventual winner jumping the final fence.
After a battle on the run-in, Sire De Grugy crossed the line three-quarters of a length to the good and De Bromhead believes the interference cost his charge victory.
He said: " Special Tiara was stopped in his tracks at the last and lost all momentum.
"The other horse jumped right across him and I think if we had a clear run at the last fence, we would have been in front.

The Stewards report:
Race 6 - 3:00pm THE BETFAIR TINGLE CREEK STEEPLE CHASE (CLASS 1) (Grade 1)
The Stewards held an enquiry under Rule (B)11.6 into possible interference at the final fence. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that the winner, SIRE DE GRUGY (FR), ridden by Jamie Moore, had interfered with SPECIAL TIARA, placed second, ridden by Noel Fehily. They found that the interference was accidental, in that the gelding had jumped left-handed and the rider was unable to prevent him from doing so. They considered that the interference had not improved SIRE DE GRUGY (FR)’s placing as, although the interference cost SPECIAL TIARA some ground and momentum, the winner appeared to be holding him comfortably on the run to the line. The Stewards ordered the placings to remain unaltered.

winning margin needed to be less for them to get involved , if S T  was a neck and gaining behind  , would have been reversed , it is wrong i know

the interference did cost ST 1.5 lengths and surely would have at the very least competed for the win and may well have nosed it

One wonders what Moore would have said if the interference had been the other way round.
