Hi Sid,
i don't know if the link with bleeding and breezing is founded but I wouldn't be at all surprised. Trainers are too concerned with the horse going lame (rightly or wrongly) to train at speed. We were only talking last night about certain Newmarket trainers only ever doing 3/4 speed work and an occasional breeze. Some won't put their strings on the grass just using all weather. There is a fair amount of evidence that this type of training increases the problems with bucked shins etc. I suppose it's all personal choice. Do you want a sound horse running below his ability or risk an injury? I for one, love the way the old American trainers breezed their 2yo's twice a week on dirt and those that survived the process were certainly tough. That cant be bad for the breed, can it? |
