In todays marketplace are bookies really needed?

There current spitting the dummy about sponsoring races shows them to be the shower that they really are. They espouse gambling controls (when the fun stops, stop!) whilst at the same time promoting machines in there shops which we all know are what gets the kids hooked (young adults) in the first place. They take a lot of money out of the game. Check there recent profits. What do they give in return? a free cup of tea if your a losing mug punter in there shops. Any punter showing any kind of success they close or severely limit (effectively closing there account).

They set up off shore to avoid taxes (fair play) but really those taxes could probably be offset against racing initiatives in this country like funding GA, Riding Schools for kids, Injured jockeys etc.

I've walked into a *orals recently and asked for a £60ew bet on a big race which was flagged up. Yet there happy to let people do there entire benefit cheque in a machine.

Why don't we just have betfair. Its the free market. (im not a betfair employee, honest!):-)

Arrogant baldy mug giving it the big one. Pay up or clear off. Racing should have its own exchange with all profits ploughed back into the sport.

No need for off course bookmakers in this day and age.

A racing owned Tote with low takeout would be ideal.

Instead of being sold to a bookmaker the Tote should have been converted to an exchange.
