any bet bookie

true, especially when i was in the industry 25 years ago.

You cannot expect staff to check every bet they take,a lot of bets are placed just before the off and if you tried to check them all some wouldn't get on.

You wouldn't go into a supermarket and expect the checkout staff to check the sell-by date on every item.

The store is responsible for selling you their product in compliance with the law and are vicariously liable for mistakes their employees make. The customer isn't responsible. It's basic offer and acceptance. I'm not sure if and why that would be any different with racing and there's certainly an argument to be made that their T@C's which absolve the bookie is an unfair contract term.

So if ,as regularily, happens 5 punters rush the counter just before a race the employee says sorry i'll have to check this bet and you others are too late.

I've never heard of a bookie sued for not checking bets,it would be laughed out of court.

I's not the staff responsability to check, some do or used to if time allows.it's simply impractical some times.

mistakes their employees make.

in the bookies case it's mistakes the customer makes.

As it's a contract, what's stopping you from writing on the back of the slip your T&C's (small print)?
