There was a recent related discussion in terms of sporting shocks, worth a read.

I was 21 then - first ever race meeting - with mate who was celebrating his 21st - his dad got free tickets - he was gamekeeper for Lord Sefton. We pretended we backed the winner and got some mug to buy us free Champagne in champagne lounge. Recall that it was a Jumps/flat meeting then and remember bumping into Clement Freud in the betting ring. The most pi$$ed Ive ever been Silly
Report Mikael D'Haguenet November 27, 2015 1:54 AM GMT
I seem to recall reading that the great Monksfield won on his debut at massive odds on the tote. Can't find it anywhere though.

Jockeypedia....
On 21 November 1990, Equinoctial - trained by A. Miller and ridden by A. Heywood - won the Grant's Whisky Novices' Handicap Hurdle at Kelso at a British record SP of 250-1. (Other horses have started at longer odds, but without winning.)
