I'm not saying it's the case at Chelmsford, but I'm sure I've heard Millar say the same about Southwell in the past, and I'm sure he'd say the same about jockeys going wide round NH tracks where the inside has started to resemble a ploughed field.

some horses don´t like to be crowded, if your horse is going nowhere down the inside switching it wide and away from the others can sometimes have a galvanising effect - others would just run free unless they´re covered up. Like people, every hoss is different.
It could be that Epsom Day is quirky like that...though I think its just a dog
