Isn't Kirby noted for his strength in the saddle. From three out he seemed to suffer from cramp.
Report theres only one best tonic November 25, 2015 12:52 PM GMT
he had a severe case of layerparalysis which is a condition often brought on by riding on all weather tracks during the winter but which is cured once spring arrives and handicap marks are obtained

Exactly!
Report stridingedge November 25, 2015 12:56 PM GMT
all weather tracks this happens in every type of racing

novice/mdn hurdles, flat mdns etc etc

you are always taking a huge risk with what is actually the plan in these races

it's not an aw thing though
Report stridingedge November 25, 2015 12:57 PM GMT
makes me laugh people thinking the flat and jumps is somehow more transparent

The plan for most horses is the future, not the given day.......

From the three furlong marker not matter what would have been his final position I was sitting looking at the screen thinking he must start getting on with it sooner or later.

Thankfully he got his strength back on Field Of Dream

A Luca non jigger in a maiden takes me back to the great days of the 80s   Dallas  et al when Rae Guest rode em for the hcap mark and the late great Pat Eddery was given the leg up for the plunge.

Chinoiserie a shocker at HQ one day...Ivan Allan Commanche Run colours, if i remember right
Report geoff m November 25, 2015 1:26 PM GMT
Yes Duncan was Ivan Allan colours.
Was the shock @ Goodwoood tho in the extel? Think Celestial Storm was the fav and Cumani hcap supposedly good thing got turned over by Chinoiserie could be wrong but extel and goodwood stuck in my mind as it allways did with Cumani

From Racehorses of 1986 about Chinoiserie:

"Developed (what a delicate choice of word) into a very useful colt, winning handicap at Yarmouth, minor event at Brighton and two races at Goodwood, namely Extel Stakes ....."

The other Goodwood win was the Listed Foundation Stakes. Celestial Storm was third in the Extel on his second career start, after winning a Newmarket maiden on debut, which I think was the one still run at the July meeting. He was fav at Goodwood, Chinoiserie was returned at 14/1.

Celestial Strom left that form way behind as he ran 2nd to i think Moon Madness in Leger and i think it was following year ran close up cant recall whether he was 2nd or 3rd behind that wonderfull mare Triptych in the champion stakes

In relation to the original post in the same colours Fittocks Stud(Cumanis) Free Guest bolted up in the Extel and following year hacked up in soft ground @ same track in Nassau stakes.
Remember them like yesterday altho of top of me head I couldnt tell you a winner from yesterdayLaugh

Geoff,

He was second in the 1986 Champion Stakes, and ended the season rated 131 by Timeform, which makes his defeat at Goodwood off 9-1 all the more surprising, although he had leg problems all his life (only raced eight times in total) and maybe was feeling the ground there in the days before Mr Hosepipe Buckley arrived.

As a 4-y-old, he won the Princess of Wales at Newmarket and was second to Reference Point in the King George, then retired after a return of his problems when being prepared for the Arc.
