Poor old Chemical Nicky, still convinced the world is against him - his quote about Mighty Fine today a prime example:
"It's ferociously competitive but we have to start somewhere. They weren't the greatest of races he won at Newbury and Cheltenham, but he has an extortionate rating for such a baby of a horse, so we had little choice but to contest a race of this nature."
Seems he still can't quite grasp the purpose of Beginners Chases.
Mighty Bite has a hurdles mark based on his two novice hurdle wins. Handicapper often doesn't take chances with this sort of horse trained by one of the "big" trainers but no compulsion on Henderson to go novice chasing with MB so early in his career. If he thinks the handicapper's wrong why not run MB in a couple of handicap hurdles and prove him wrong?
Of course Henderson will look a fool if MB bolts up today given his "lofty" hurdle rating is still inferior to those of his three principal rivals. Has Henderson ever looked a fool before I wonder?

If this doesnt win today Newbury have said they will stage a beginners chase at the Hennessy meeting limited to 6yos who have only run once over fences and whose initials are MB. That should shut the whingeing old fart up

Aw, come on chaps I think you are being a little unkind to poor Nicky. A fortnight either side of this race there are/were only ten opportunities for Might Bite to grace the racecourse and he would have been very competitive in all of them. But he's rated 138 so that only leaves 2lbs before he hits the 0-140 ceiling of the Nov H'cap Chase at the Festival.
So you can see poor Nicky's plight. It's very difficult to get vital chase experience into a horse whilst keeping their mark down.
As poor Nicky says....."We had little choice".
