In the UK I would say Cartmel.
Not been to many in Ireland, but I did enjoy Tramore. |
|

We all say Goodwood because it is so elegant and scenic but it is not really a good viewing course and is it any better than Brighton or Epsom for truly run races ?
I like ones that are compact in their facilities without trekking miles and where the racing can be viewed from start to finish in some comfort. Cheltenham Festival may be the years highlight for some but one that I can do without. |

Plumpton but for the weather, the going and the one an hour train service.
|
|

All of the northern ones are dreadful, but I guess that simply mirrors society in general.
Goodwood wins all day long. |
|

I was very impressed by Cheltenham but went to the relatively low-key Oct meeting. And of course as a northerner my expectations are low

Let me tell you would drive long way to get to Ponte for an evening meeting quintessentially everything you want in a proper racecourse and everything close by. Fabulous experience in my humble opinion.

Goodwood is a karzi.
It is pretty but I want racing not scenery. The racing has too many races with interference. The paddocks are a joke. The pre parade is full of trees and you cannot see the horses properly. Goodwood has always been very expensive including catering. It is impossible to move on Ladies Day. |

Hexham is great though insufficient facilities for the crowds they get. Really good viewing though.
Windsor is awful. Sandown very good but pricey. |
|
By:
A very difficult question to answer ...my favourite Southern courses are probably Fontwell , Sandown, Kempton(nh) and Ascot. Also nearly forgot really like Plumpton too !

Was talking to my friend today at Naas, hes English and said his fav was Wincanton. I Loved Hexham Cantthink, and Goodwood .

Fakenham in England
Perth in Scotland Chepstow in Wales Thurles in Ireland. Fakenham is a hidden gem and always reminded me of an Irish meeting. |
|
By:
Dont understand the attraction of Goodwood, glorious location but the horses still run right at you like ascot, brighton & Kempton.
|
|

I like Leopardstown, Killarney, Sandown, York,Stratford,Wolverhampton, and Dingle.
I go to Cheltenham, Epsom, Newbury, and Listowel, Ludlow. I like the racing at Ascot but don't like the place or the atmosphere. Same for Goodwood, except I don't even like the racing (results) there. |
|
By:
York is my favourite flat track... couldn't agree more Lester !
Ludlow is my number one N H course, great view from the top of the grandstand ( binns all the way round the course) and, the people are so well mannered... like going back to an Edwardian era for three or four hours ! ![]() |
|
By:
plenty are not over keen on goodwood i see fully understand why,
never been to killarney heard nothing but good reports about the place. |
|
By:
Hexham definitely a great little track for watching & Kelso is also better than many
On the flat York is top class for atmosphere, the standard of racing & the enjoyment of a day out |
|
By:
been to plenty of em .... Its York for me .. nice people city center full of good pubs and top hotels and the books will lay a decent bet... what more can you ask
|
|
By:
Kelso would be another one that was really friendly , and the drive from Durham was magic .

Ireland - Leopardstown / Punchestown (rest are pretty much sh!tholes if we're honest)
UK - Cheltenham / Sandown |

If you are going as an owner Chester is the best in England, followed by Haydock, Surprisingly, Southwell is very good too.
In Scotland, Ayr, Mussleburgh and Hamilton stand out and put most English racecourses to shame. As a spectator then midweek racing At Thisk,Ripon, Beverly are all very good. |
