There is a long drawn out broadcasting issue with Victoria tracks - and thus ATR have not been having any feed from Flemington, et al. ---------------
A typical article - admittedly from a few months ago ...
On Friday night, Victoria’s racing clubs, including the host of the Melbourne Cup, Victoria Racing Club, had yet to decide between signing a new deal with the industry’s long-time partner, betting giant Tabcorp, or taking a leap into the unknown and going into business with Seven to show races on free-to-air television while retaining digital and international rights.
Governing body Racing Victoria last weekend recommended the Seven bid, but racing clubs have the final call.
“Obviously everyone’s conscious of key looming dates but obviously also conscious of the need to make sure we’ve covered all the ground and understand all of the issues,” Mr Burn said.
“We’ve used the week to work through that (RVL recommendation) and discuss detail with RVL. That process is ongoing.”
Absent a breakthrough over the weekend, Sky Channel viewers seem set to again miss out on footage of Victorian races, as they did over the Christmas-New Year period when the fight over media rights first flared up.
Club boards face a stark choice between two very different ideas of racing’s future. ----------

in Willie Mullins we trust....had a decent bet Max....Northumberland plate was a smashing run...then a cracking win in the Lonsdale on fast ground....made Mizzou look ordinary....fine horse....
Have to admit....stall 2 is a worry if he blows the start but the way he handled the hustle and bustle of the plate makes me believe he'll be alright if things get a bit rough.
Didn't know it was on Eurosport so thanks...in Willie Mullins we trust....had a decent bet Max....Northumberland plate was a smashing run...then a cracking win in the Lonsdale on fast ground....made Mizzou look ordinary....fine horse....Have to admit
Tell you what though...doubt I've seen a Melbourne cup with this much depth in it....hartnells trainer summed it up pretty well when he said he'd be happy if hartnell finishes in the first 10! And he's a quality horse....

- BUT - NO Australian Racing on ATR - whatsoever - is both unusual and strange.
Australian racing was definitely on a couple of nights ago, if not last night, too.

onlooker, I suspect they were unable to have the usual programme edited live to exclude the actual cup so just aren't bothering to show any racing - it will just be a full feed they usually get. Poor show though.

I know atr think a prompt sp return is of little interest to its viewers but not showing this race for the first time in years is a new low even for them. Must be a load of Tories being cut back happy. Where

according to the ATR boss quoted in the RP they weren't even given the opportunity to bid for the rights. Does sound like some politics has played a role.

The boss is certainly a tory, looking to blame somebody else then spinning until the real reason is lost in the confusion that is inherent in anything dressed up in blue.

Prince Of Penzance was Drawn 1, on the inside rail - Yet ... She moved OFF the rail, to around 4 horses wide, halfway down the back straight - and ended up winning from the Middle of the track down the Home straight - halfway across the width of the field - which is where Trip To Paris was drawn.
Big Orange was drawn 23 - way out on the outside ... yet got across the whole field, early on, to the inside rail, and led for most of the race, and into the home straight.

What was going on there squire? No further posts from you so I'm not sure whether you were tasking the piss - if so, it's in very poor taste.
I remember some reptile a few years ago scoffing about the demise of Monet's Garden, so that sort of bellendry does occur.

When somebody commentating from the racecourse said "This is a tragedy" "Ed Dunlop is inconsolable" "Red Cadeaux hasn't survived his fifth Melbourne Cup" I assumed he was stating as fact that Red Cadeaux couldn't be saved and was in the process of being put down.
I apologise for not quoting the commentator verbatim and I apologise for jumping the gun when tired and in a bit of shock!
Hopefully Red Cadeaux can be saved and has a long and happy retirement.
