Have a great day Sonko, I was there about 2yrs ago ,couldn't believe how many camper vans there was in the infield ,blocked out much of the racing tbh. A nice place to visit though .
Report mondeoboxerblue November 2, 2015 1:20 PM GMT
Workrider....Even if the campers were not there, you would not be able to see the horses. There is a major dip in the back straight and you lose site of them. However, Exeter has installed a big screen, so you dont miss a thing.

I'm there tomorrow too, Sonk's. Like you say, a truly cracking card and the races will be run in proper NH weather!

Just noticed Coneygree's brother is making his chase debut tomorrow too. Excited

I'm thinking Monbeg Gold could be a good old blot as well on handicap debut for Jonjo, up to 3 miles. Held in the highest regard as a pointer, winning impressively on his only P2P start, always going to be seen to best effect over a trip after fair efforts the last twice over 2m4f. 114 a more than fair opening mark imo, and has a race under his belt so fitness should be no concern. GL!

Certainly looks like a jonjo specially handicapped horse.

Mon, yeah the big screen was there the day I went, but old fashioned like to see them with my bins . May as well watch from home otherwise.
Report mondeoboxerblue November 2, 2015 6:52 PM GMT
Workrider.....I felt the same way and thats why tomorrow...I will watch it on my 50 inch screen and place my bets via the internet....and it will be warmer...and no fog...The racecourse is very high up !! so hopefully the fog will clear.

I hear what you're saying Mondeo, also you have expenses like travelling, entrance fees, food....but from time to time you just have to get to the racecourse to get back in touch with the game. The sights, the smells and the atmosphere at the races are something a 50 inch screen, no matter what make it is, can ever capture.

1.20 Five-year-olds have won the last six renewals and with BOA ISLAND, DUKE DES CHAMPS and WALKING IN THE AIR having been declared to run, the trend looks likely to be extended. Paul Nicholls (BOA ISLAND) has saddled two of the last six winners with Paul holding two entries in the contest at the weekend. That said, it should be noted that Paul has not secured a winner at this meeting for two years now, ten runners having been saddled by the maestro during that time.

Favourite factor: The seven favourites have secured three gold, three silver and one bronze medal thus far.

1.50 Philip Hobbs has saddled the winner of four of the last 12 contests with Philip having offered the green light to ANTIPHONY on this occasion. Five-year-olds have won four of the last seven contests whereby WELSH SHADOW and YANWORTH certainly look capable of pushing Richard Johnson's mount all the way to the line. The pair are listed in order of preference at the overnight stage.

Favourite factor: 11 winning favourites have emerged at 1/6, 4/9, 4/9, 4/7, Evens, 10/11, 8/13, 8/11, 11/8, 7/4 and 15/8**, whilst the biggest priced scorer to date was returned at 8/1. 16 of the 17 market leaders have secured toteplacepot positions, whilst favourites come to the gig on an 10 timer on this occasion!

2.20 Paul Nicholls has won four of the last 17 ‘Haldon Gold Cup’ contests and VIBRATO VALTAT represents the yard this time around via two options that the trainer held at the weekend. Paul has saddled 19 representatives in this event during the last 13 years resulting in two victories (3/1 & 6/5*) and five placed runners (exact science). The race lacks depth this year whereby Paul's six-year-old could be the fourth successful vintage winner in the last seven years. Indeed, Paul last won the race back in 2010 with Tchico Polos, his only success during the last decade. GOD'S OWN returns to defend his crown after winning the race twelve months ago off an official mark of 155 when carrying 10-7. GOD'S OWN is asked to carry an additional 10 pounds this time around despite only being rated five pounds higher by the handicapper. This scenario sums up a disappointing renewal, unless SIRE DE GRUGY reverts back to his former self by destroying the field with a scintillating performance. That said, Gary Moore's former champion has never won a race in excess of seventeen and a half furlongs, whereby the jury are out before witnessing this contest.

Favourite factor: Seven favourites have won during the last 17 years, whilst 10 market leaders have secured toteplacepot positions during the study period. Eight winners have emerged from the front three horses in the betting during the last 13 years.

2.50
Last year's inaugural winner went on to win two of his next four races whereby it will be worth watching this year's gold medallist to see if he can emulate Carole's Destrier from 12 months ago. Paul Nicholls has declared SOUTHFIELD VIC via three options open to the champion trainer at the weekend. Paul's Old Vic gelding looks to have the most scope in this seven runner field, with his five time winner having won four of his last six assignments. That said, it will be interesting to see if Mark Bradstock can get anywhere near his heroics last year and it would come as no surprise if FLINTHAM ran prominently on behalf of the stable in this contest. A winner of three of his last five races, Mark's Kayf Tara gelding tackles fences for the first time and it will fascinating to see how his renewed rivalry with THE TOURARD MAN works out over the larger obstacles.

Favourite factor: Last year's inaugural 2/1 favourite duly obliged.

3.20 Eight and nine-year-old’s have produced five of the eight winners to date, six of the gold medallists having been returned at 28/1-25/1-16/1-14/1-10/1-7/1 thus far. Eight-year-old course and distance winner RUSSE BLANC has become a highly consistent individual having finished 'in the three' 10 times via his last 11 assignments, winning on three occasions. MIDNIGHT LIRA is another vintage representative to consider, whilst the two nine-year-olds in the line up are others to peruse, namely BIG SOCIETY (blinkered for the first time) and ACHIMOTA.

Favourite factor: Four market leaders having finished in the frame to date (one winner).

3.50 Six-year-olds have secured three of the seven contests, statistics which include two of the last three renewals, The only two relevant entries this time around are CAPTAINOFINDUSTRY and MILLANISI BOY. Mark Pitman trains the first named raider and the popular handler has already saddled a winner since his recent return to the training ranks. Others of interest include BREDON HILL LAD (the only course winner in the field) and SANDY BEACH in the toteplacepot finale.

Favourite factor: Five of the eight favourites have finished in the money (four of which won their respective events), via seven renewals to date.
