Not that I bet e/w ante post much but I was just shocked to find that there is at least one firm that changes the each way terms should the number of runners change. Several others had very unclear rules and their customer services couldn't say one way or other.
This is what I gathered:
Betfair Sportsbook, b365 - Changes the place terms to that of the day of race - Shameful!
Baldy & I assume T0te, Lad, SJ, B0yles, C0ral, VC, 888 - keep it fixed to the place terms as when you struck the bet - this is correct and thought all firms would do this
PP, Spbet & WH - don't know!!

You're wrong about b365, checked their rules, place terms settled as when you make bet.

PP, C will stipulate EW 1/4 1-2 unless 8 Run if they suspect less than eight runners

Bets are settled on the each way terms which were on offer when the bet was struck. As Penny Pincher says, some firms, more and more these days, will offer 1/4 odds 1-2 with the proviso that if eight or more run it will be 1/5 odds 1-2-3. This is done when for example Aidan O'Brien has 8 or so entries in a field of 14. Its obvious he is not going to run all 8 and the field size will probably be 6 or 7. But the revised terms HAS to be stipulated. |

Betfair sportsbook told me categorically that they would change the place terms if an 11 runner race became 7 runners.

Totally and utterly wrong. If it was advertised in advance, like the example i did earlier, thats ok. But they cannot just decide to change the terms whenever they feel like it. If a race has 18 entries and the place terms are 1/4 odds 1-2-3-4, four places has to be paid even if only 5 horses run on the day. Ask them what they would do in that scenario.

The only way u would loose out with b3 6 5 is that with some of the big flat race handicaps on the day they go 5 places if there are a lot of runners. They also pay double result on antepost bets which I doubt anyone else does.

I think basically the problem is the rulebook for many firms is unclear and the staff have no clue. Spoke for 40 mins with willhill and they had no clue what antepost betting was - beggars belief!

But the staff SHOULD have a clue though. What is the point of doing a job if you dont know what you are doing. Most of them just make it up as they go along. The ante post rule has never changed though. All each way ante post bets are settled on the place terms available when the bet was struck.
