As if todays debacle was not enough,  tomorrow's published race times are incorrect by an hour. Maybe they are not planning to put their clocks back in Betfair Towers?

Please don't remind them that clocks go back. Site is bad enough as it is without them meddling further. Cry

They usually sort the clocks out before the end of the month.

I have forward your comments however I am not sure todays issues are as a direct result of operating the new site alone for the past few weeks. We do not believe the website is unfit for purpose but do recognise that when there are any technical issues this has a massive impact on customers and are left to apologise.

This is the response this evening after sending them an email - so its got nothing to do with the fully functioning great new site - seriously they really do not have a clue - just another 2 fingers to its customers.

1) the exchange (new site) was the only part of operations that was down
2) they clearly said switching off old site would increase stability

I have been around on Betfair a long time & little surprises me now but I found today's experience of using this place quite disturbing. I logged in and placed a £600 bet on a market in the Reading v Fulham game just before 1pm(matched kicked off at 1.30pm)and my balance went down by £600 but there was absolutely no sign of the bet!! Nothing on the market page to say if it had been matched or unmatched and nothing in my bets in my account that the bet existed at all in any form!! Just £600 gone!! I then suspected a site issue & looked on the forum to see there were problems but had my bet been matched or not?? The game started soon and wanted to know. I rang customer services and was quite shocked that they knew the site was having problems(had been for a couple of hours I was told) and yet they left the site open to access. They thought that it was ok for people to access this place and have the same experience I had and see money disappear from your account with absolutely no sign of any bets being placed. I'm not sure if it's incompetence or just a total disregard of their customers that anyone thought it was ok to leave the site open in the state it was in. As I said earlier, a disturbing experience but things like this no longer surprise.

I agree ewood, leaving the site open was a very poor decision. My main bet today was a "back-to-lay" bet on the 15:20 Cheltenham. Champion Court. Back at odds of 13.00 pre race, lay at odds of 8.50 in running. It was a fairly safe back-to-lay. With the problems on the site I wasn't able to get on and had just about given up trying. Shortly before my race though, the site became operational and I was actually able to place the bets. Backed at 13.00 (accepted), I then placed a lay bet at 8.50 to go in-play. The race began, and listening to the commentary Champion Court was travelling well when the race began to heat up and had moved into 3rd. At that stage the lay bet would have been taken. But during the race the site went down again. No-one could play in-running. It meant of course that my bet wasn't taken, and because the horse didn't win (I never expected it to) I lost the lot.
Obviously the decision was made to allow people to get involved with trading before the site issues had been completely resolved. It was an extremely poor decision.
There were a few comments yesterday suggesting that an exchange should be set up solely for professional/semi professional players, without all the "extras" that such people aren't interested in. I'm surprised no-one has made a more concerted effort to start something up. The people in charge of the exchange side of Betfair don't seem to have a real understanding of what they are dealing with here. Allowing traders to get involved when the site is still unstable is not acceptable.

The API was also down, which suggests the issue went beyond being linked to the introduction of the new site.

Well if you never expected it to win, wouldn't it have been smarter to lay it pre-race rather than back it?

Its still not right on Firefox, initial loading and logging in fine but as soon as I try to change a page I get the 'connection was reset' page. Are they ever going to get this effing site right.

All the more galling when the exchange is down to be told your maximum on a 14/1 shot is £2.50.

Possibly, but that isn't usually the way I play a "back-to-lay". In fact, it wouldn't have been a "back-to-lay" in your suggestion.
The horse was trading at 13.00 pre race, and even though I didn't "expect" it to win that doesn't mean the horse "couldn't" win. I rarely straight lay horses at that price, and when I do it's because I have framed a market on the whole field and have looked for and layed underlays. 13.00 actually looked a fair price so there was no perceived edge for me in laying it.
That race looked to me the sort of race that Champion Court would be in contention for at the business end, therefore a "back-to-lay" was the strategy I had chosen.
I admit I was stupid for going ahead with it knowing the site had issues and I'm partly to blame for my loss, but it doesn't take away from the fact that Betfair made a poor decision to open the site up at that particular time. It was obviously still unstable.

Regarding site operational problems - it is common practice in I.T. development to 'save' each version of  the software before implementing any changes. Consequently when and if problems occur the developers can restore in a matter of seconds a previous version of the software that was known to be reliable and problem free meaning the users experience no down time and the developers can carry out the necessary remedial work at the same time. Perhaps BF can explain why this modus operandi is not observed.

Evee, it's bets like yours where you have every right to demand they reimburse you. We know it wont happen, but should they be allowed to walk away scot free YET AGAIN???

It would be good customer service if Betfair give us a true picture of the problems (which started before Saturday) they/we have been suffering. But Betfair and customer service don't go together.

No such thing as customer service. I posted earlier today about the way they handled my complaint re lack of access to a certain site. As expected they haven't done anything about it.
