That was comically bad. He didn't look very good when he rode the horse at Brighton either. If that is the best he is capable of, he isn't fit to be riding in a race unde rules.

Jockeys thought process: I don't want to sit totally motionless so I'll shake the reins a little bit and hope it doesn't pick up..if it does then I'll stop-start riding it to ensure it only gets so close. Worst case the stewards give me a little ban. Big deal? I'll live off the ill-gotten gains from my latest non-trying ride...
The comforts of today's jockeys.

making it sound like he was plucked from the crowd and made to ride the horse. he showed he has much more ability than he displayed today on the same animal at brighton.

don't think it was ben t just inexperience imo, stewards did look at it;
The Stewards held an enquiry into the running and riding of SILVER LINING (IRE), ridden by Mr G Tregoning and trained by Marcus Tregoning, which was settled in rear and was tenderly ridden from turning into the home straight until two furlongs out, where he was asked for an effort before staying on to finish fourth, beaten 2 lengths. The Stewards interviewed the rider and the trainer. They also received a report from the Veterinary Officer that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities. The rider stated that his instructions were to drop in and get the gelding into a rhythm but he felt that SILVER LINING (IRE) failed to handle the slightly softer ground rounding the home bend. He added that gelding lost its action and he therefore took his time before asking for his effort approaching the two-furlong marker, where the gelding was slightly intimidated by a runner drifting right-handed in front of him. SILVER LINING (IRE) then ran on when he reached the better ground. The trainer stated that the rider had ridden to instructions but, in hindsight, the gelding may have benefited from having been ridden more prominently in a slowly run race. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race the Stewards noted their explanations.

The rider stated that it is a family owned horse and they were not there to win the race, but had only turned up to give him experience of horse riding in an amateur race. He stated it was only his third ride and what did they really expect ? The Stewards noted his explanation.

if you thought his ride at Brighton was any better then i bow to your superior race reading. both were equally poor imo but like i said for me nothing sinister, at this stage he is jus not very good. about the same level as over 80% of those who ride in these races. the majority do it for fun and enjoyment not for the benefit of punters.

Wish trainers would state before they run then that " jockey is c r a p please don't waste your money, as a member of the family we have to humour him & hopefully after a dozen or so rides the penny may drop "

The Stewards held an inquiry into the competence of the trainer and concluded..
He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and as he was turned down by the Army Navy Air Force and the WAAFS it was decided to set him up as a groom on the condition that his horses were not allowed to win..

Having watched over time many dubious efforts this must rate as one of the strangest,he actually stopped ridingat one point thought as did comms that he was pulling up,then he comes away with that finish.
The jockey should stood down for a lengthy period to teach him a lesson,and Dealer his ride at Brighton is irrelevant when discussing this "effort".

not off, it has ran the same way in 8 of its 11 runs with various jockeys on board. 8 runs under 10/1 would hardly say its being lined up for a tilt. might win a race though, good luck if you keep following it.
