I do one every day. When bookies are paying 3 times the odds for one winner it's hard work to lose too much. I may be the exception to the rule.

The lucky 15 thread has had loads of trebles up.

I used to do placepots for a profit in the 90's and early 2000's every week, given up on them now as they dont seem to pay what they used too. Either the placepotters are better or something else has occurred.

I still do a yankee, prefer a heinz myself and do them daily.

Singles are the grind but potentially profitable, doubles & trixies if you're lucky give you a buffer, anything else is lottery territory, my faves are either 2 singles & a double, or 3 singles & a trixie, for small stakes.

At least 40 years ago. I am very happy with single bets and if I am honest it is plaoe only on Betfair that is the most prifitable or least expensive form of betting that I indulge in. It is annoying when you back one place only and it wins at a big price but most of them finish second or third or nowhere.
Report Paterson92 October 11, 2015 8:47 AM BST
Last day of every month (August - February), I always put a £0.50 Yankee on for Cheltenham ante post to try and seek out some value and for a bit of fun. Last years most notable success was Faugheen (Champion Hurdle) - 4/1, Un De Sceaux (Arkle) - 6/1, Vautour (JLT) - 7/1, Windsor Park (Neptune) - 10/1. That of course only provided cover for the fact I had been backing Vautour for the Arkle as a single for ages! I've been topping up on Douvan for the Arkle this year, would imagine I'll end up firing him in one of my Yankees at 10/1 for the JLT as cover.

if you do 4 horses in a yankee in a betting shop.............every horse is at least a point or even bigger on 6 or 7\1 chances............maybe 3 points on 10\1 to say 16\1...........then in to the 20\1 you could have sometimes double the price on here..............multiply the difference......bad value
Report Paterson92 October 11, 2015 9:52 AM BST
Hence why ante post normally means you have a better price than the SP well in advance.

why do the bookies seem so keen for punters to do them that's what bothers me, are they a bad bet or good bet. i'm sure the punters who target the bad ew races it gives them a definite edge as i've heard that they have trouble getting the bets accepted, but for backing in your average sort of races i don't know if they give us an advantage even with treble odds one winner.
Report Tucho October 12, 2015 7:55 PM BST
they promote behaviour they wish to encourage, they ban you for behaviour that costs them money

if you go into a bookies and there's signs up for treble odds one winner lucky 15s, they're not losing money on those bets
Report homefortea October 12, 2015 8:27 PM BST
On dear fellas you must be new to the game..

Done properly the bet is a godsend and guaranteed prices (although I must admit that the original ones will be poor) is a steal..

The alleged "bookmakers" rely on the mugs putting in short priced horses..

Concentrate on the better handicaps where you can back horses at double figures and you cannot fail to break even...Blush

Id do multiples everyday if I could make money out of them.  Nothing like a bet rolling up.  25 years ago I won £5000 which got me hooked on them.
Report sageform October 13, 2015 2:02 PM BST
The nearest I have been to a mega pot was an e/w double on Piccolo who won the Kings Stand at 33/1 and a horse whose name escapes me who was fourth beaten 3 heads in the Wokingham ridden by Alex Greaves also at 33/1. The place double was 80/1 and we backed them both e/w single as well. Around £50 e/w and £20 e/w double between 2 of us so a few thousand back and would have been £25k.
Report TheBaron October 13, 2015 2:08 PM BST
Betfair has changed things .  If I had a large amount rolling up these days I'd be hedging it, which would take away the thrill of a big win.
Report shiner October 13, 2015 2:09 PM BST
ignore hfts advice and swerve handicaps and wait till there are 4 decent ew races then get what u can on spread around. simple u will make money. Why people want to bet in handicaps where someone much smarter than me is trying to get them to finish in a line is beyond me

I do a multiple every day, 6 or 7 selections often ew with extra accas to £1 or 50p unit. Occasinally have a £10 yankee + £10 acca, (if they all come in I hit big time). Best return so far £57,000 and had over 10k a couple of times.

You have a 20 million/1 chance in the lottery, pure luck only. At least selecting in 6 or 7 races you can rule a few out.

Lots of losing bets I know but it is the only way I will have a big win. £100,000 is the target.

I will keep having a go.
Report homefortea October 13, 2015 8:24 PM BST
Good luck fella but the concessions are the best..

If you live in that rathole London then you could not fail to win..

Triple the odds one winner on a Lucky 15 BOG has to be the best though...
Report shiner October 13, 2015 11:14 PM BST
So u would rather bet in a 15runner handicap then a 9 runner maiden with an odds on fav which hasn't run and the 2nd in has solid place form.Keep taking the tablets
Report sageform October 14, 2015 8:44 AM BST
Shiner, the trick is to back the unraced horse in a maiden at a price that you think underestimates its chance based on pedigree. Place only if you think the short priced fav. will win.
