The 80s was different class for brilliant horses. I don't know if its the rose tinted glasses plus the fact i was growing up during them but it seems there were heaps of stars then.

El Gran Senor
Dancing Brave
Mtoto
Oh So Sharp
Indian Skimmer
Miesque
Reference Point
Nashwan
Dayjur
Green Desert
Last Tycoon

Every name has its own memories - absolutely fantastic. I remember Teleprompter winning a handicap at York in spring 1984 after which he just took off. Show Of Hands making the pace as he moved into group company. It was better then wasn't it ?

Badsworth Boy reminded me of Bobsline, Noddy's Ryde and that led to Drumlargen, Greasepaint and a whole host of other names Laugh

Just watched the Time Charter race again, some race that was and Sir Peter at his best.  Somehow his commentary's made these races sound so serious which of course they were when the cash was down.

Remember getting a Trixie up the first day of Royal Ascot 1984. Trojan Fen Morcon - waiting on Chief Singer - television pundits expressed stamina concerns - won 8 lengths broke the track record en route to the July Cup.Three decades on the memories are as clear as ever.

Had the pleasure in seeing the horse before it went stateside, im almost certain its last race was at Ayr (big odds on) and get beat by Longboat, one of its first races stateside was for $1 million , the other horse after that sold to the states that won $1 was owned by kenneth mcpherson , Eradicate I believe it was sold after winning the john smith cup.
Report foxy top September 6, 2015 5:45 PM BST
Longboat brings back memories of poor old Petrizzo,

the only horse to get disqualified from the same race twice !

onlooker you helped me few months back with racecard/results from ayr on live aid day, just been looking up the old warrior teleprompter and was reminded he got beat three times in the land o burns stakes by bedtime/parliament/santiki, i was definitely there for the first two of those - can you oblige with the results of the complete meeting on those days?  i think parliament may have been ridden by french jock alain lecquex (or something like that!)

Was Teleprompter trained for his career by Jack Watts?

I seem to have a vague recollection of seeing him in a race at Musselburgh one day, early on in his career obviously?

I used to love all those Lord Derby home bred horses...guaranteed to get better with age.
Report onlooker September 6, 2015 7:52 PM BST
Not, "Jack,"  - but by his son.

Trained by J W 'Bill' Watts
