I have been a member from the early days, and am just appalled and extremely saddened by its demise into corporate mediocrity. The customer service in those days were people you could ring up and have a chat with. They were extremely educated about Betfair and had the ability to give you an answer on disputes quite often favopuarably if your grievance was just. Now you can have an "on line" discussion with what are presumably young student types who have not a clue about gambling and who have a set answer " it is covered in our rules"

In other words our mistake ,your loss stop moaning. The race that did not go into play after the 9ff yesterday is just another prime example. I had another goplfing query about why my lay bets were not showing on the screen it was justy not answered at all except to say it had been my comments had been passed on ? Yes I am sure it has !! BF have a great dicsussion bin in the sky which we must all must visit in the future. The customer service actually said to me "you dont like the new site do you ?" as if I was some Luddite ,trying to stop evolution. The new site would be great if only it worked properly not showing your lay bets on the screen is like a Shop having a 40% sale but not letting their customers know until they buy something. In other words totally useless.

The biggest problem is that I still care about Betfair,it was in its day the best innovation in the gambling world since legalisation. The problem as I see it is that they dont care about me,or any of us unless you are of course another corporation.

Just look at the way they have reshaped the site. Basically av it or shoo. Like a page from the Beano with too much kak and I cannot be arsed to use it like I did. Forum is dead not like good old days is it. That is progress bollo.

Any company, whether its in this sector, pharmacy, whatever sector it may be has issues. Betfair had a turnover of just short of 400 million. The company as a whole relies massively on IT, an area to which evolves at a very rapid pace. It was always going to run into issues.

I'm the most disillusioned I've ever been with it. I like a basic p2p platform that is easy to navigate at speed. I feel this new exchange is several sites all cobbled together and is extremely clunky.

I used to be a management consultant and worked for many large companies on large business critical IT changes.  Never did any of them introduce IT changes (upgrades, new systems, fixes or whatever) without consulting users before the change so that they (IT dept) understood the implications of planned changes from a user perspective, carrying out rigorous systems testing, performing comprehensive user testingsystems testing before going live with the changes.

I have seen no evidence in the last 10 years that Betfair does any of this.

They are incompetent - but they have a monopoly and believe that mediocrity is ok  ... but so have many before them.  The IT function  needs to sharpen up, Mr Cutter.

interesting that they no longer have any BCM - just shows what they think of their customers when they don´t even bother going through the motions of listening anymore...

They have only one small competitor but they are losing lots of bets to it every day. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot, this lot have even taken aim at it!

The other one will never be competitive and that's why we all stay here despite the disgusting Premium Charge and daily incompetences.

What has the OP been doing for 13 years with only 8 posts? Prolific or what!

What happened is they introduced the Premium Charge and then got a recreational sportsbook expert in to run the company. The result is the share price has exploded but the exchange customers feel betrayed. The revolution they promised has not happened.

One thing is clear Betfair, you have a lot of unsatisfied customers with recurring problems that are not being attended to.

This is not a good position for any company to be in,let alone a public company with shareholders to answer to.

I'm a PC payer and they treat me like filth.  I tried to get a politics runner added yesterday and they told me that they would not be adding him to the exchange market as he had too little chance but he would be on the sportsbook if I wanted to back.  Thanks lads!

I used to bet thousands a day with them but the liquidity has gone early doors on the horses due to those getting shafted with the premium charge..

Would rather now not bother - have bought a pipe and slippers and have the occasional tenner win and place on the football first goalscorers...

Come on here sometimes to have the back ripped out of me but I love it..

Even though the best posters have been given the Red Card..

"......The problem as I see it is that they don't care about me,or any of us......"

That is how it seems to be, totally different attitude to the early years, but hiring 'experts' from other fields who don't understand or care about customer concerns and this is the situation you end up with. I love betfair and don't like to see it going this way.

"I'm a PC payer and they treat me like filth."

You can't treat customers like they are the enemy. Get back to looking after and caring about the customers.

We should all buy shares and turn up at the annual meeting. A few hundred unsatisfied punters asking questions and generally causing grief would focus the arrogant, self satisfied, smug attitudes of the people who lead this company..

During my life I have met quite a lot of big business people, and usually was not overly impressed, even though they may have achieved good business results, either by luck, good judgement,or other. When meeting Breon Corcoran, and when the shares were in the doldrums, for once I was strongly impressed, and thought that he knew exactly the way forward to improve the company. The shares are at an all-time high, when other betting companies are nowhere near their peak.
His results obviously don't please some on here, and want to blame him for the changes in liquidity, not accepting that this may be due to players changes in strategy. Many moaning about liquidity, yet I see certain sporting events "going through the roof" in terms of volume of business. It is practically impossible to please everybody, and online betting has many different sides to it,due to trading ,and habits changing.
Look at the figures at the top of the page of various races, football matches etc.,and they don't look weak to me.
We all had to get used to the new site, which I did months ago, like getting used to a new phone, tricky at first, then shows itself to be better than previous models, like the new site.
Very little in life is perfect, but I have been with Betfair since it started with a handful of staff in Parsons Green, and have to admire what the company has achieved.Sure,it went through a bad spell, which Breon sorted out,and see very little to moan about now.

frog........how you think things will pan out from here...with plenty still on the old site?

In response to the original question of "what has happened to Betfair",well my answer is they have exceeded expectations ,and Breon Corcoran has turned them around big time, hence the share price peaking, when other betting companies's shares, are certainly not peaking, far from it.
Trading methods have changed greatly in the 16 years Betfair has been operating, since it started with a handful of employees at small premises in Parsons Green.
The liquidity,as shown at the top of the page for events, looks healthy, albeit tradindg in a very different way on horseracing, mainly due to players style of trading, which certainly isn't Betfair's fault.
I don't get easily impressed with business people, but was impressed when meeting Breon Corcoran.
Many moans about new/old site, but it is like getting used to a new phone, and after a while you see how much better it is compared with the old model.
They have their glitches from time to time, that is the world of online, which is a complex operation, but just think what betting ,and no facility to legally lay,was like before the advent of this exchange.

time is a great overseer ,no company will survive if they do not listen to their customers.
did you forget. The bigger they are the harder they fall.
an old saying in business about companies that failed to listen to the people that bought their product.

i actually got a free 25 quid bet on the spoortsbook yesterday when i phoned to complain about the race which didnt go inplay..but due to the restrictions on my account i couldnt even place it all on an 11/4 shot ffs!! the site has become a joke.i used to turnover about 5k a day on here,id b lucky to do that in a month now and i still begrudge giving betfair the little business that i still do.
