the horse was found to have had blood in the lungs on the last of two poor runs for jardine, in the best interests of the horse he was retired as the vet diagnosed him as a cat a bleeder, not the correct term i would guess. he was sold on to a jockey supposedly to go show jumping or eventing as alledgedly he couldnt take the strain of racing. i know guys who paid into that horse for three years, must be absolutely gutted. something seriously amiss with the whole escapade

Report the dealer August 11, 2015 4:16 PM BST
im only telling it as the facts that were given to me and in fairness to jardine he strongly fancied it to win on the first run for the yard and also to follow up two days later at haydock
Report arrested development August 11, 2015 4:18 PM BST
hate seeing that happen especially to novice / raw owners
Report the dealer August 11, 2015 4:23 PM BST
i believe the horse was sold to wilson renwick for a couple of thousand, what happened in the few days before it arrived back at dalgleish's is anyones guess. i see it ended up in the ownership of his main patron. i wonder how much they paid for it
Report arrested development August 11, 2015 4:26 PM BST
would get 40k all day long if it turned up at the sales off the back of that
Report the dealer August 11, 2015 4:33 PM BST
it doesnt help that there was a fall out by the main shareholder of Lamont and dalgleish that meant the horses left the yard this year. for it to end up back there in the circumstances it did...... well i dont think i need to elaborate.
Hamil;ton next thursday might be interesting

Suprised the stewards didn't ask for an explanation of his improved form. Thanks for the info dealer, don't expect your pals will be looking to have another horse with him any time soon!
Report the dealer August 11, 2015 5:02 PM BST
who do you blame, i had no part in the horse but if a vet says it shouldnt run again then is the trainer really to blame for wanting what is best for the horse. just a really unsavoury taste left. even syndicate ownership isnt cheap and to keep faith for so long, then to have the dream taken away and worse still to have it win next time out the way it did for new owners, well what more can you say.

Unfortunately for us, this beauty is looking for a 2nd career in a 5* home. He is only a 4yo so has bags of time to adapt to a new discipline i.e. Dressage, SJ, Eventing or Showing. He's a real head turner and is a lovely person to work with. He is fresh out of training but is retiring from racing sound so would just need time to wind down before embarking on his next adventure!

he was sold a day later

Surely the sellers knew who the buyers were (or were) going to be?

Report Crewebish August 13, 2015 11:57 AM BST
I'm sorry, but surely it is naive from the trainer and owner selling it for non racing purposes, all they needed to do was file a non racing agreement with the bha and it would have been retired and unable to race, they didn't, so if the other person thinks it's race fit then fair enough.

It's not the persons fault who bought it, they clearly think the injuries are manageable, it's stupidity to sell a horse without a non racing agreement in place if you don't intend it to run again
Report arrested development August 13, 2015 5:47 PM BST
declared to run last at Doncaster saturday
Report the dealer August 13, 2015 6:17 PM BST
SS they obviously knew who bought it, they believed it was going show jumping.

crewe... completely correct in fact as far as i am aware you can tick a box in its passport to say as such. he was retired on the evidence and advice of a vet as i am led to believe, in the best interest of the horses welfare. finding blood in its lungs after its last race. the trainer advised he could do nothing more with it. i dont argue with what you are saying, i will just add there might well be more to it than meets the eye.

in hindsight yes they were very naive, i suppose you could argue if it had been sold unable to race, the shareholders who paid into it would still have been deprived of a winner and what seems a perfectly fit horse would have been retired by mistake.

eight weeks is a long time in racing but it would seem in this case he has had a miraculous cure. or has he ??????
Report Fred C.Dobbs August 13, 2015 7:13 PM BST
I dont suppose it could be the case that when Dalgleish, knowing the horse and the promise he showed when he trained it early doors, saw the horse was for sale at a reasonable price and persuaded an owner that it was worth the risk to buy it.
Lets face it, Dalgleish is a genius with getting horses happy and fit to run and improving horses that seem to have regressed.
Seems to me that the apparent improvement is more to do with the talents of the respective trainers.
Report the dealer August 13, 2015 7:20 PM BST
hardly needed to persuade an owner who had tried a couple of times to purchase the horse.

nice of you to make an appearance on this thread FCD, we should be honoured

it was some training performance i agree, although in all fairness it did look to have a few lbs in hand Grin
Report the dealer August 13, 2015 8:47 PM BST
you would have thought though fcd that with such a talented horse he would have won with it before the age of four and regards improving horses that seem to have regressed, the last time i looked mr bridger hadnt done a bad job with the danger.

The Dealer
a similar if not identical situation occurred with a horse my sis in law had.
She purchased it as a yearling and kept it for 4 years , she done a deal with the trainer to give him a half share to put it into training (still paid half of all fees etc).
After showing some initial promise it was decided that it wasn't going to make a racehorse but would be ideal for another discipline.
She has repeatedly asked the trainer where the horse has gone and he continues to be evasive and will not give her details of any sale , new owner etc.
Having kept the horse for 4 years it was only natural she would like to know its well being, her biggest fear is it turns up point to pointing.
Just left a very sour taste.

Yeah I appreciate that td, but his head was a bit up in the air for my liking at the finish today. Perhaps he was hurting / bleeding? We'll probably never know.

No need to doubt anything that you've already said and looking through the Lamont website they seem a decent, well run bunch. Shame that they would appear to have been done like a kipper on this occasion.

not sure i would say they were entirely stitched up, naive to say the least but if he is what he is, a bit of a shame that those who bought it spared no thought for the horse unlike its previous owners who it would now maybe seem were doing the right thing for the horse.

But it then went up a further 4 - as the horse that finished second to it has won in next 4 races! - and is now 26 lbs higher!

Looks like they got a little lucky last time. Happy

bit to add SR. bit of water under the bridge since then and Lamont now have a few horses with him. been to the yard, Lungo's old one, cracking place and he has made a great start there.

my take on the Scurr affair, he arrived an ill horse at Jardines and left an ill horse. the million dollar question is the recovery, i doubt we will ever know the truth.

with regards to his previous schooling, dalgleish has a tree trunk that he uses to teach the horses to lift their feet, well in theory any way. when scurr went to jump it he decided he didnt have to and rapped his shins so hard he was lame for months.

in hindsight i do feel a bit sorry for Jardine, it looks like he was stitched up like a kipper along with others of course. good to see him knocking in a few winners.

no probs SR, it is an interesting story that i am sure has still a bit of run in it
