IN A DESPERATE ATTEMPT TO GET PUNTERS AWAY FROM TATTS AND OVER TO THE CHESTERBET "RIP OFF" OUTLETS,HALFWAY THROUGH THE MEETING ON SATURDAY PUNTERS IN TATTS WERE ADVISED AND IN FACT GIVEN DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO ACCESS THE SUBWAY OVER TO THE PADDOCK AREA,"WERE THERE WAS PLENTY OF ROOM" TO GET RIPPED OFF BY CHESTERBET.ALSO THE GESTAPO ON THE GATE ARE NOW NOT ONLY STOPPING PEOPLE BRINGING THEIR OWN DRINK,BUT I DIDNT REALISE THAT THIS INCLUDED FLASKS OF TEA OR COFFEE,IS THERE NO END TO THIS COMPANIES GREED!

I have been to this July meeting for the past 20yrs and it is SOLD OUT in The County Stand and Long Room every year. The queue for Chesterbet was bigger than for most of the bookies in the ring with most of the once a year punters not even aware who they are betting with.
I noticed that the nice old ladies who used to sell the racecard in the corner of the County Stand have now gone and the racecard is now sold in the Chesterbet booth.

Lots of people yesterday who said they wouldn't be coming back...couldn't bring their own alcohol into the course and 40 minute queues to get a drink...the crowd was down on previous years and will obviously decrease a lot more...wake up Chester and sort it out...a massive mistake!
There were a lot of people leaving before the 4th race which has never happened before and it hadn't started raining then so that can't be offered as an excuse.

Chester BIG 'Picnic Sunday' meeting - at the end of July - will be chaos, it looks like.
It was chaos when they let them all in - 30,000 crowd regularly.

They have needed to cut down on numbers at chester for a couple of decades, so stopping the `freebie/skintflints' from coming is probably sensible. I have been in the centre course where the crate of ale merchants hung out and it was horrid.
Make it more comfortable for those willing to spend a few quid and keep the benefit seekers OUT.

I don't think they've handled it at all well though foxy and people are suspicious of their motives as they are the greediest course in the country. I went to the cricket last Wednesday and you could take your own food in and soft drinks in plastic bottles, but no alcohol. Bag searching was fast and efficient and all the staff were friendly and jovial. Not a bit like the welcome you get at racecourses. Test matches are very boozy affairs yet when I sent to the bar I didn't have to queue behind more than one person at any time. Left thinking what a great day and will go to Cardiff again. Ticket was £62 and I thought it was value. Wonder how many think Chester is value?
Chester are also pushing their chesterbet phone app using their useless wifi. There will be no end to this until we are out of their way. To date we have been very good boys not highlighting the appalling value that chesterbet offer while we are on the course. That good will may not last much longer IMO.

I do think the police have put pressure on chester it was kicking off in the middle most meetings however they are now out of control with there greed I was astonished at the amount of chester bets joints with the umbrellas up all night were by the parade ring on Friday.
anyway much more interesting is your cricket experience £62 as you say is very good value for a full day out watching top sportsman at a really big sporting event ,what was the cost of food and drinks ?I have had to pay a lot more for some of the world cup fixtures I am going to this autumn one of which is in Cardiff,was getting around the place easy enough I was thinking of staying in newbury then getting a train.

I have thought about that wasnot {poor value with chester bet}my view is they would not allow any noticeable criticism ie sticking a sign up on your joint,perhaps the racing post and c4 each time chester race can WARN punters about the value they get.
Food and drink wasn't cheap, foxy, but was quite good quality and varied, unlike the endless burger vans on the racecourses. I don't mind paying a bit more for food if the quality was OK. Can't stand paying £6 for something that's inedible. Most of the foods on offer were £5 or £6. Some Aussies sat behind me had the fish and chips and said they were nice. They had vans dedicated to selling the Stowfold Press cider at £4 a pint and that was nice. Park and ride was in operation from Cardiff City FC ground and that was a doddle, buses going all the time. There was no-where to park near the cricket ground, although the walk from the station was only about 2 miles and was through a beautiful park so I may do that next time. Also there is a very good pub just outside the ground selling Brains which is a nice tipple.
Regarding Chester bet, at Ascot this year the Tote had signs up outside their booths saying the tote returns had beaten the SP at Ascot in 2014 in however many races. Do you not think we would be allowed to do the same at Chester? ie in the last 12 months the SP returned from on-course bookmakers boards had beaten the Chesterbet returns on 100% of races run at the track? Double standards surely?
those prices are fair enough for decent stuff I am sure the getting in and out for the rugby will be well organised ,in my two year stint at ffos las I came across plenty of brains in fact I don't think there was a watering hole in south wales that didn't sell it.
no doubt its double standards even at stratford yesterday the announcer spent 15 mins telling everybody what great value the tote is,but they are on there property and do as they wish.

Yes, Chester management seems to make some strange decisions. I cannot really see what is their objective.
The current set-up seems to help nobody; neither horse-racing enthusiasts or day-tripping, pi ss-artists.
Those tents in the In-field block the view for thousands of paying spectators - for the sake of whom? The patrons, I guess.
Many of these, as with the County Stand, don't actually pay for their tickets; they get badges off "connections". ( I know, bc I did it myself once).
Also, only a year or two ago, they started giving "two for the price of one" for Tatts.
All this, plus those who buy from spivs, makes me wonder how many are actually the "benefit scroungers" referred to by mullah?

Why should anyone be able to take their own food and drink to any sporting event?
It it surely part of the business model of every entertainment business on the planet to
generate income from selling food/drink. I agree they should do it better - on busy days at every event I have been too there are long queues at the bar and the food on offer I wouldnt let my dogs anywhere near.
So as a punter you plan. If you are going to chester you organise nice food in one of several good restaurants in chester before or after the meeting. You then buy a cheap ticket off a tout to get in tatts. You then go to the paddock area where it is very pleasant, nice atmosphere, room to walk around and get all sorts of different drinks.
You bet on bf, the once a year mugs would rather take 3/1 on chesterbet and get paid in cash than 5/1 on bf. Everyones happy, It really aint hard.

There was a story on the local news a couple of weeks ago about businesses in the city centre being unhappy with the number of Saturday meetings now held at Chester. The pubs, unsurprisingly, were the only ones seemingly happy.
DR Gonzo - Chester, apparently, wanted more Sunday fixtures - because of the annual popularity of the upcoming one.
However, the City Council would not Licence them - so they, obviously, went for the Saturdays, instead.
From a Form study perspective, there are now simply too many meetings there.

You would have to catch the stopping train going back to Reading in order to get to Cardiff which would be a pain.
Newbury is on the wrong FGW line for Cardiff going instead to Exeter & Plymouth.
Shirley & I were at Cardiff on Wednesday. What we always do is drive to Bristol Parkway and get the train to Cardiff from there.
Bristol Parkway is just off the motorway and the train journey is cheap and only 35 minutes. Loads of trains to choose from. Book in advance, though.
