Without the exchange, Betfair are nothing. Just another faceless bookie without anything unique. I can't for a second believe, that Betfair would completely neglect the exchange.

Totally agree. However, Betfair - the initial idea anyway - is a unique product, which now has a couple of suitors but still have a huge market monopoly on the initial product. For that reason, they probably ought not take core customers for granted otherwise they risk losing what makes them unique.
