Hello can. I hope I have understood your confusion correctly?

The filly named Salvo running tomorrow shares her name (hence Namesake - geddit?) with a high quality colt of exactly the same name from the past. That colt ran in the owner's colours that I described in my original post.  I will leave it to others to describe how good the original Salvo was.

In 1967, he won the Hardwicke, Yorkshire Cup and Grossen Preis von Baden, and finished 2nd in both the Arc and the KG&QE.

Harry Wragg also trained for the Oppenheimers.

I'm not sure why the name Salvo is allowed to be recycled, given that the German race is a Group 1?

No 'Group Race' Definitions in 1967 - ged

They first First appeared in the Form Book in 1971

I thought perhaps the status stood retrospectively for such races.

You would think so - logically.

Without a lot of long-winded checking, though, we cannot be sure that it has always been a Group 1.

May have been, say, Group 2 in the early years of the Pattern - who knows.

1976 -  Group 1

Result just gives Orange Bay as finishing 13th of 14 to Sharper -
No other details

Race not even in 1974 and 1975 Form Book.

Looks like they may only have put some Foreign Results in if there was a British runner.
