Thumbs-up for Chester’s new easy bet By Bill Barber 1:19PM 7 JUL 2015
CHESTER racecourse’s in-house betting operation has introduced a new wager which they describe as the “easiest bet in the world”.
The bet, called Odds Or Evens, is the latest addition to ChesterBet and simply requires customers to choose if the winning horse’s racecard number is odd or even. The payout formula is based on the aggregate starting prices for odd and even-numbered horses.
The course said customer reaction had been positive.
Chester racecourse head of gaming Tony May said: “The turnover on day one far outstripped our estimate and the bumper crowd on Friday and Saturday really got behind the bet.
“Odds Or Evens is available on all home and away racing. It was interesting that many of our regular customers also added an Odds Or Evens to their usual bets.”
The course also ran a second trial of their EasyTab personal terminals, which allow customers to view racecards, odds, results and place bets for all home and away racing, with an added facility for race replays.
The racecourse, whose in-house betting service has been criticised for offering poor value to punters, supplies the seven-inch tablets, which will initially be available for corporate box customers plus owners and trainers but will later be rolled out to a wider cross section of the public.
Chester chief executive Richard Thomas said: “We have been working closely with Datatote, our betting partner over the last year to finalise the interface of the EasyTab terminal.
“To get the best from the technology we also needed to complete the roll-out and fine tuning of our course-wide wi-fi provided by O2.
“The customer reaction to the terminals has been tremendous and marks another step forward in customer service and innovation at Chester.
“Phase two will allow customers’ own android phones and tablets to be used and this will widen the service considerably.”
