the gambling commission revealed that 29,000 people 'self excluded' themselves in the same year, a big rise on the previous 12 months, worryingly there were 21,000 reported breaches of these orders.
betting shop numbers fell 2% to 8,958 in the 12 months to march 31st this year, with the big 4 owning 86% of all shops.
the number of people employed in the sector at the end of September 2014 was 50,359 a fall of 9% since march 2011.
so still no chance of getting a decent bet on any time soon.

yes I went, lost a good few quid on it, came to win the race but having to give the winner 13lb took it's toll, impressed with the guest apprentice who also rode the last winner as well.
still not given up on it, will look out for it at newbury. |

shocking the money that goes into those fobts ,on another note saw a thead on chit chat forum on mad bid online auction ,where bidders (mugs)pay to bid ffs on a coffee machine retail value of £850 it had total bids amounting to........... wait for it £17,568 or somewhere near that amount well named site youd have to be foo kin mad to bid on it !

One of the few things that could save Horse Racing from the inevitable rapid demise would be the abolition of these machines. Is not going to happen.

Lads are running a 'Free' bet promo. Bet £10 between 5 & 6 o'clock, and you get a scratchcard. Every card is a winner.
One card offers 'free' £5 matched bet on a machine. Stick £5 in, they give you £5 play. Not what I call a free bet. |

Like the other major bookmakers, Ladbrokes have recently signed up to the government backed scheme to protect players by making them register if they want to bet over £50 a spin on FOBTs. This is obviously designed to avoid FOBT players from betting more than they can afford.
In the last few weeks Ladbrokes have also launched their 'Grid' loyalty card, which entitles all holders to two for one pizzas, discounts in bars and restaurants, price reductions on Racing Post products, a free bet if they back a 4-1+ winner on a televised race, consolations on football accumulators etc etc. Sounds like a good initiative. Until you read the small print, where it states that anyone who signs up for one of these cards, automatically signs up to allow themselves to bet more than £50 a spin on FOBTs, whether they want to or not. For all their posturing and false concern about problem gambling, it's very clear to me that Ladbrokes are still interested only in cynically circumventing government backed initiatives to protect players, and shamelessly persuading people to lose as much as possible on FOBTs, imo... |

They staged a free tournament immediately after the Grand National to sucker the once a year punters in Dickie - it probably took place while Kammy was rattling on about how much Ladbrokes care about problem gambling on their voice network...
