Today's guesses:
Silver Duke, 1pt EW, 3.35 Ayr
Unlucky not to win at Musselburgh last backend having found all the trouble going before going down by 0.25l; he won a C3 handicap over hurdles in Feb, but a mixed back so far back on the Flat, doing well to get within 0.25l of a rejuvenated Hydrant over 10f at Ayr, but a couple of disappointing runs since and it could be he doesn't want the ground soft.
There are some major negatives to his chance today, namely dropping in trip to a mile, a wide draw, and why he hasn't been seen for over 6 weeks, but worth remembering the unfortunate Mussy run was over 9f, so perhaps he'll cope with a mile, and given he should have one of these in him of his current mark, he gets a speculative vote at a price.
Currently trading at 24 and around a 16-1 poke
Border Bandit, 1pt EW, 4.10
This grade may be a bit much for him, but he is on his last winning mark and he has run well enough on 3 or his last 4 starts to suggest he could be about to strike again soon; although only 5th on his latest start, it did come in a competitive and valuable race for the grade at Carlisle, and he did well to get as close as he did given nothing got into it from off the pace.
Yes mackies, obviously today's race looked a good bit easier than the race he ran in at the Curragh when I selected him, but he was quite a drifter today having generally been around 11-2 for much of the day.
Looking down the list of guesses since I started this little project, the only other to oblige since was Juventas, but at relatively skinny odds.
