Failed pro-punter, failed businessman, failed tipster - it says it all about this industry that he's still slurping the Bisto with the best of them...

Cardiff, I always think that anyone can be a pro-punter until the money runs out.

Though this industry must be the only one in the world where people with a proven track record of being totally incapable even of competence can get routinely paid for being an 'expert'...

to be fair he does mention his failed business in his introduction piece....think he says he tried to get borrow money  to keep it going if i read it right .......so he must be low on funds

Which begs the question,

Are there any professional backers out there anymore.

Not fast pic guys or arbers or lay everything at 1.03 etc.

Just people who study and make their living from placing wagers on a daily basis

The thing is olddesperado is that the punting landscape has changed dramatically over the past 20yrs as you know. There are far more ways to nick or do a tenner nowdays aren't there. The punting lines are more blurred so you've got to use the approach that suits you best, haven't you?

didn't he used to back multiple runners in each race? like 4/5 in 8 horse fields..

The statistical approach is for anoraks. Nevison doesn't look remotely like an anorak.

----------------

Yes - So that approach did not require an immense amount of Form Study -
simply because he was not trying to eliminate practically ALL of the field, in order to end up with a single selection.

Just 'playing the prices' - with a scatter gun approach.

Lay out, say, £800 in differing stakes at differing prices, in a race, to Return £1000, whichever of those that you had backed - wins £200, when you have the winner.

Of course, if the race was won by a horse that you had NOT backed - then you would Lose the whole £800.
