It's there for the taking!|

Connections of the top 10f horses MUST have a rethink here as it might even turn into a great race if they pull their fingers out.
Quality performers like The Great Gatsby, Free Eagle, New Bay & California Closets could be considered. The foreign challenge should well be spicing this up a bit and wouldn't you think Coolmore would be able to rustle something up and have a go? There is tremendous presige in winning a race like this...like the Arc it's like a group one A+ and in all likelihood, it's going to be won by a bum - what a waste! The prices on Betfair are a bit of a clue - I don't think I'd be exaggerating in saying Jack Hobbs (especially after winning at The Curragh) would be odds-on if he lined up against that lot...not to mention Golden Horn who'd be a Nashwan-esque 1/5 in my opinion! |

Navel i think he may have been mocking what is probably an auto correct for California Chrome.

I've just realised what he's said and it's my fault for thinking out loud

That auto correct things is grey, don't you think?

the 1986 running of the race contained
Dancing Brave Shardari Triptych Shahrastni Petoski Dihistan Supreme Leader. Triptych started 25/1 for the race. Would be odds on for this years running |

Fid - you could say the same about horses that've ran great races in 5th or 6th places in many years! That's how bad this renewal is.

I think you can safely put a line through the performances of both Eagle Top and Postponed yesterday. Both pulled and failed to settle due to lack of pace, indeed I think Eagle Top's finishing position can be significantly marked up. Given a decent pace I think he's definitely the one to beat, although whether Gosden will run him there with Jack Hobbs looking a likely runner would put me off having an antepost bet

I think the 73 renewal had the best in depth field.
1 Dahlia-won again in 74. 2 Rheingold-2nd btn Sh/hd in 72 Derby and had won 4 on the trot before this race, the John porter,Prix Ganay,Hardwick and GP de Saint Cloud. Won the Arc de Triomphe afterwards! 3 Our Mirage-winner of the Prix de la Salamander as a 2 yo. 4 Weavers Hall-Irish Derby winner. 5 Parnell-2nd to Brigadier Gerard in this race in 72. 6 Card King 7 Scottish Rifle-Won the Eclipse race before. 11 Roberto-Won 72 Derby and only horse to beat Brigadier Gerard in BH Gold Cup and won the Coronation Cup at Epsom by 6 lengths prior to this race. Doesn't get better than that imo, this years rather pales into insignificance in comparison. By the way Dahlia hacked up by 6 lengths! |

did triptych or dahlia produce anything good as a broodmare

Cardiff
triptych didn't get much of a chance she was killed by a tractor quite early in her breeding career. |

its worth remembering harbinger was only a gr 2 horse winning the hardwicke before he put up an incredible performance in the king George.
|

By:
Yeah, we often criticise the poor state of the sprinting division but the middle distance brigade can't seem to produce any depth these days either...that list for a king George is an absolute shocking state.
