1972/73 Imaging this, a few of us lads having a few drinks after a hard day in the yard. In comes a English lad who had just started working for Mick O' Toole, sits down beside me and starts to ask me if I was heading to the races on sat, told him I wasen't to interested tbh. He says I rode one in work this morning and I think its a cert in the bumper, in fact he said it was the biggest cert of all time and I should have me tank on it. Decided to take his advice and backed it, it ended up even money and won pulling a train.  The next time it ran was Royal Ascot ridden by J Lindley and won at 33/1. Its name BALIOS..Have to back this one tomorrow
for old times sake.

a better reason to back it (I got 6/1)is that it is tipped by Hugh Taylor; due an Ascot winner and highly intelligent tipster

BALIOS arguably already has the best form (this year anyway) in the King Edward VII Stakes (3.05) and has plenty of scope for further improvement after just two starts, so he looks the one to be on at the prices. He has always been well regarded by connections, who were happy to sacrifice a handicap mark of 86 allotted after his winning debut at Kempton (having supplemented him for the Derby earlier this year at a cost of £8,000), and he was strong at the finish behind Best Of Times in the Listed Newmarket Stakes on what was his turf debut. His dam was Listed placed over an extended 1m4f and Balios shaped at Newmarket as if the step up to this trip should suit, and he looks to have a solid chance here.

looking at the money tonight, I suspect also tipped by Pricewise; not so good an omen this week

I went to watch the Commonwealth Stakes and was looking at the results on my phone. As soon as I saw Balios had won I thought of this thread having read it the night before. Well done Workrider - a really pleasant story!
