Weld was saying over here few weeks ago that he was behind in his training...not saying he is now..just an fyi

Says in the Post "he is heavier than we'd like him to be", but we'll see.

Koi, are you still sweet on the beast in the first race?
|
|
By:
It was ready to run in may at the curragh but had a "Head Cold" wonder how they knew that lol,
but apart from that it was fine and they decided not to run and to train it for Ascot..maybe the head cold took longer to get over than they thought.. |

Yes Stew, I had already backed it..

Thanks elise. I could be done with a return as it happens.
No cert, but should go very close imho. |
|
By:
will they be racing on a wet track?
|
|
By:
Good to firm ground looks set to prevail for most of the week.
Clerk of the course Chris Stickels reported: "We have fast ground out on the track. It is good to firm. We are very comfortable where we are with it. It's good, fast summer ground. "We were good to firm after the second race yesterday. The track dried yesterday afternoon and we will probably end up having to water this evening after racing. "It doesn't look like we will get much rain although it is a bit more overcast than I thought it would be today. There is a possibility of showers Friday or Saturday but the forecast does keep changing." By Jon Lees, live from Ascot 25 mins ago |

Thank-you kindly.
![]() Not ideal for my patriotic spec on Criterion ![]() |

good luck koi

By:
I was on Criterion at 100/1 for the Cox Plate, always liked him but he doesnt have one hope of winning that race today, should be 14000/1, not 14/1.
The ground is the key to the race and its Cannock Chase who will benefit. Ectot has the class but worry about the ground and his preparation, The Grey Gatsby could be the danger but he has not looked the same horse this season. |
|
By:
just for info (bit late for you stew) but daq are 1% first race on comms and are at least level price most of the time
|
|
By:
With decent luck it goes close to winning that Cox Plate...imo
You know eight of them and I know one so you may well be right....and wet is his preferred. Oh well, I'll be cheerin anyway. ![]() |

By:
I think that Western Hymn is much improved this season and he is my first choice.
|
|
By:
Ectot is the class horse although I worry about him stepping back to 10 furlongs.
|
|
By:
Nothing went right for him and The Valley probably isnt his ideal track. He beat Red Cadeux in the Queen Elizabeth and his form just isnt up to winning one of our best middle distance Group 1s, the fast ground just puts it to bed. Not that he is up against any superstars today, but he is up against better middle distance horses than he will find in Australia.
Its A Dundeel I would have considered, loved that horse, strangely he also let me down in the Cox Plate and I got also got a cracking turn off him in the Queen Elizabeth. I dont think Criterion is of the same class. I was on Lucia Valentina at 66/1 for the Caulfield Cup, went off 3/1 fav im sure you will know, and I thought she was very unlucky not to win despite the **** horse looking good. Stan James had these Cox Plate and Caulfield Cup markets up months before and I couldnt believe my eyes at the prices, I put the £15 max on Criterion at 100/1 and the price got cut to 66/1 ![]() This was just after Randwick when Lucia Valentina was given too much to do in the Oaks behind Rising Romance(who I backed with James McDonald) and Criterion had won the Derby. It wasnt just those two, Sacred Falls was 100/1 for the Cox after running 2nd to Its A Dundeel, went off 15/2, never seen crazy prices like it in my life. |

Criterion is in with a show here there's no doubt about it, he improved again in Hong Kong which proves he can handle the travel, I know the age old argument is that Australian middle distances horses aren't near as good as those in Europe but he can only race against what is put in front of him
the Hong Kong run was his best to date for mine, he looked the winner at the furlong was run down by some handy locals, beat Cirrus De Aigles who ran 4th (Cirrus De Aigles is a top class group 1 proven performer in Europe) whilst a win would shock, I don't doubt that he's good enough if the race is run to suit |
|
By:
stew, would never have won at any stage, whatever the reason, that wasnt its running..
|
|
By:
Gone for Gailo Chop & The Corsican, The fav is far too short on what it has achieved on the track. gl all.

|
By:
Ectot for me
|
|
By:
i've always thought Free Eagle is ver overrated, now its time to prove I'm wrong.
Gatsby all the way. |
|
By:
Think I can forgive Ectot for that run in the Arc....savers Speilberg and Criterion (I've only done the latter because I know Chad's family and he's well up for this).
|

By:
Probably the most international race I can remember being run in Britain ever. Long may it continue. Going Spielberg myself. GL all.

Western Hymn a big win lay for me here. Backed this horse in October /Ascot and was disappointed . Took a chance on him 1st time up this season to return losses. Was going to lay him last time out purely because of the going. But I bottled it luckily enough. I will be happy to pay out if I'm wrong today. But they won't be hanging around here and I doubt on this going he'll have the speed .

Chromie (USA) missing but yea the international race of the season

the great Gatsby to place , 4 places for me
very tough race to call a winner so sticking with gatsbys class to keep it close good luck |

somewhat fortuitous winner

Why should he move his mount of its line, just because Spencer has got himself into trouble? |
