Watch the replay, hood was off at the start it was caught on George's arm he just knocked it off after about a furlong.
As for the final furlong it was a bit of a calamity. He was chopped of by horse hanging to the left decided to go for a clear gap on the right but it was all too late and could not get to the front. I had £600 odd quid running on it but it was not to be. The previous rides were oustanding just did not work out in the last. Thats racing folksWinkWinkWink

I e-mailed the BHA a long time ago about this, pointing out that the race starts the moment the stalls open.

Therefore,if at that point a horse has a blindfold on, it is racing with a blindfold on!.Surely that's not allowed!

I also queried why the rules aren't such that the starter cannot start the race until all blindfolds are removed.

They replied that if that was the rule there was a risk that the horse would panic.

I also pointed out the inevitable nightmare that will occur one day when a blindfolded horse throws the jockey after

the stalls open. They didn't address that issue in their reply.

Of course when it does happen and the public is treated to images of a blindfolded horse running berserk they will

change the rules because public perception is more important to them than how the sport should be run.

roggrain - Your suggestion that -

-  "the starter cannot start the race until all blindfolds are removed." - is an excellent idea.

Lots of horse have their blindfold removed once they have entered the Stalls, and some time before the race starts.

Should a horse, "panic," under such a blindfold removal requirement, then the answer is straightforward.

The horse is immediately taken out of the Stalls - and WITHDRAWN - with NO further option to try and Reload.

roggrain. can't see a problem with your suggestion. The starter could shout "blindfolds off". then press the button to open the gates.

Mnay jocks want to leave it to the very last second to precisely get that moment of 'panic' so their mount takes off. However the cynic in me thinks it is an easy way for unscrupulous one to avoid the non triers rule.
