I posted about this - a week ago.
It is on several Jumps courses - going back a year or two. I wondered if it was something to do with the new Re-measuring of Jumps tracks. The only rational line I could come up with was something like - 'Outside Measurement Summer' ... where a course has the space/Width for both a Winter and Summer alignment. However, that theory was just an intuitive 'stab in the dark'. |

http://www.britishhorseracing.com/press_releases/the-bha-confirms-changes-to-jump-race-distance-measurements-implemented-from-1-june/ that was the statement for anyone that missed it . http://www.britishhorseracing.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/Jump-distance-changes-1-June-2015.pdf that's the changes that were notified by course (think there were a few bits still to update when first published) |

"Old measuring system ? " - is a decent call - BUT - I do not think it can be correct - as ...
The OMS does NOT appear against EVERY race at EVERY track - prior to the Re-measurement.... as it would, were that the answer. Many course do NOT have OMS in the Results - so it looks like it is meant to mean something different. |

Onlooker - I've just noticed it on past results over "rounded up" distances as they were, read your thread on this last night, I also read the BHA piece about the new system on their website, I was just guessing to be honest, I've not seen this "set in stone" anywhere ...

Likewise - shady - re: - "set in stone."
I feel sure that it is JUST a RACING POST 'in-house' thing - and NOT an Official item. Not quite sure what you mean by over "rounded up" distances. Practically all distances over Jumps were, "rounded up," - previously - to the nearest half-furlong to which they had been measured. The difference now being that we are ALSO getting ACTUAL Yardage given - Rather that "rounded up" to the NEAREST half-furlong, as previously. |

That's exactly what I meant, in the RP form some distances were listed as "2m OMS" or "2m4f OMS" without any exact yardage. I agree the OMS term is maybe just being used by the RP themselves ... |

i thought "original measurement system "as opposed to the "2yoftirns" (2 yds out from the inner rail new system)
let's just make it fecking easy for anyone new to racing (let alone those that have been doing this for years) |

By:
But OMS does NOT appear for every Course - elise...
- as it surely would were, "Original Measurement System," the explanation. |

By:
no idea whether that's a racing post retrospective update issue or as per the 2nd link i posted above some were deemed not worth noting the change

Original Measurement System objects to Old measuring system |

no pablo, i couldn't care less what they call it, i think the point is more why make it so difficult for those who follow the sport let alone the once a week / casual racegoer
just no need to make it this daft |

Walking in, setting off before line, pinching a start etc so 20yds here and there any going to make much difference

I'm jumping on the "Original Measurement System" train.
I think we all get the drift of what it means now, though Elise is right by saying racing likes to make life difficult for us ... |
