The last time i attended a trotting meeting , an  owner i know  went along the row of bookies placing £50 and £ 100 plus  bets with every bookie in the row ,quickly followed by the "boys " getting their bets on .

The owner then went over to his horse and jockey posed for photo's then went back to the bookies to pay for his bets prior to the race starting , the 1st " bookie " he went to was a Gloucester bookie who i think was called Jack shaich  not sure about the surname .

He passed over £ 200 for the bet only to be told you only had a £50 with me at a much lower price than he had called , after a brief discussion he told the bookie the bet was off ,then  went along the line of bookies and told them all the same, walked out to the start and told the jockey to pull the horse much to the amusement of all the boys who had done their dough without even getting a run for their money.

That would be fun. The last time I saw a trotting race was when horseracing was called off in the late 80's. I think it was from Enghien.

is it difficult to officiate? If so, it's a mighty help for the Bloody Hopeless Authority (BHA).

Saw it about 3 weeks ago in Menorca,  it's on every Sunday near Cala'n Forcat

Great evening, 5 races, 5 euros entry, families and holidaymakers enjoying themselves

They follow a truck to get a rolling start, then the same truck follows them around on the inside of the track, with a loudhaler to tell the jockeys if the horse has broken out of a trot...if so, they have to drop to the back for a set period before rejoining the race
Was chatting to a Welsh couple there, who still compete in trotting meetings regularly in Wales, don't know where

I like trotting. Not only is it amusing there's no team tactic or manipulation by anyone. It can be quite hilarious if the horse runs away with the jockey to be the hare.

When would we get races like those in Ben-Hur? The wheels are fitted with blades and look menacing.
