St Amant (1904) has been described as running in hood and blinkers.

....and was given as a reason for him winning. The race was run in a thunderstorm, and the 2nd horse, John O'Gaunt, was considered a better horse, but 'wouldn't face the rain'. In 1906, St Amant was unplaced in both the Cambridgeshire and the Cesarewitch.

St Amant had also beaten John O Gaunt into 2nd in the 2000 guineas, but neither colt found it easy winning races as they were foaled in the same year as Pretty Polly, and she thrashed both of them every time she met them. On her racecourse debut, at Sandown over 5f, she beat John O'Gaunt 10 lengths into 2nd place.
