just out of interest, Oldgit, has this heart condition had any negative effects on you so far? only ask as i failed ECG last year only to get All-Clear from angiogram..but heartbeat still seems all over the place at times, particularly after booze.

Mate had a pacemaker fitted 25 years ago. Doesn't seemed to have changed him much apart from swapping vodka for Guinness, I mean every day. Has to take wolferine tablets and have the battery recharged every couple of years I think. Can dance the night away with the best of them.

Until the end of March it had not really affected me. Since then the irregularity and pauses have been constant but according to the hospital doc who phoned me after looking at the seven day tape I am still in sinus rhythm but with pauses. If I take my BP the monitor bleeps quick, quick, slow then a pause and back to quick, quick slow.It has slowed me down when walking and limited how far I felt like going BUT it is difficult to say how much is that and how much is the Bisoprolol they prescribed as that combined with the BP tablet I take brings my BP down very quickly when exercising. About ten days ago I started taking the meds at night and felt better during the day. I went to a horse show last Monday and Brighton on Friday and was OK. 
I have felt worse since March than I did before when I had aortic stenosis and had my aortic valve replaced three years ago.
I mostly passed ECG tests but always failed stress ECG's and stress echo cardiograms that gave false positives suggesting  partially blocked arteries but angiograms showed them to be clear.
Booze and caffeine do make heart rates irregular. Indigestion and GERD type symptoms also do.

Saddo: We know our own bodies. They do tests that catch a few moments in time. The seven day test gave them the right answer. The way my GP tapped out ectopic beats did not sound like my usual heat beat and my usual heart rate in the 40's would be unusual for atrial fibrillation. I once had AF explained to me better by a vet than a doctor when a horse I had a share in started stopping in his races.

Zsa_Zsa: I like that and I need a new watch as I dropped mine last week and smashed the glass. My heart rate might go up if I get a double with Harry Bosch and Noverre To Go.

Just make sure they don,t fit the pacemaker that Mo Farrah uses in his races or you wont be able to sit down for long .good luck

My heartbeat drives me mad , the Toubib told me that if he gave me any more beta blockers I would stop. Further he suggested that I give up drinking tea.....silly arse.

Good luck with it. I think Godolphin uses a lot of pacemakers, they might be able to offer some advice.

My wife had already suggested that Aiden would be the one to ask.

Dunlaying: When my 92 year old mother was dying in hospital a nurse said that she was not drinking enough and would not drink water or squash. I said that she only drinks tea of coffee. Tea is not good for old ladies she said It has potassium in it. That's modern nursing. They moved her to another hospital and the first thing they did was give her a cup of tea that she downed in one.

My missus has got one. While she was in hospital last year the Docs noticed that her sleeping heartbeat went as low as 30 beats per minute. They were going to fit a temporary one to start with but the surgeon said if they were going to do it then they may as well fit a permanent one. It only kicks in if her heart rate drops below 60bpm, I don't think she even knows when it does kick in.

She's got an appointment soon to go and have it checked out, but apart from that there's been very little for her to worry about.
