His good "friend", Emma Spencer has this to say.....
"I’ve seen AP McCoy a few times since his retirement and, I have to say, he’s really surprising me with how well he’s coping.
Like many others, I was a little concerned that the first few weeks and months would be difficult for him. Racing, as you all know, was literally like his drug and it almost seemed like he was in mourning for what was to come in the weeks following his announcement.
But he’s in great form, keeping busy and, dare I say it, putting on a bit of weight! Unsurprisingly, he’s been quite enjoying being able to eat properly and, while he’s certainly not ballooned, he looks a little healthier than we he was riding.
He hasn’t totally cut himself off from racing. Although he’s been doing all the cool things like watching his beloved Arsenal and playing golf, he’s still riding out in the mornings and has been watching the big Flat races.
Maybe when the jumps get into gear again it will hit home, but for now he’s keeping occupied and is doing well.
Who knows, maybe in the future he’ll become a broadcaster like his great pal Mick Fitzgerald did after his own retirement? I think he’d be great – anyone with his amount of knowledge would be.
Whatever he’s getting up to this winter, I’m pretty sure he’ll be rooting for his old rival Richard Johnson to finally win the jockeys’ title he so deserves. The bond between them was evident on AP’s final day when Dickie burst into tears after riding a winner, and if he finally can win the title after so many years as runner-up to AP, I know Tony will be delighted."
