Go a yard too quick and they empty, you need to know how much petrol is in the tank.

Rather than 4 poor rides. But the commentators not allowed to say that. Moore was 3 lengths of the lead in a slow run race on a stayer. He must have known the pace slackened after a couple of furlongs why not get closer to the pace then rather than let another horse do the job.

but that's my point saddo...you'd really have to f00k up to go too quick in front when not taken on...in fact, you'd prob be trying to go as slow as your horse was comfortable going a lot of the time

Because commentators keep mouthing lazy clichés.Another annoying is 'crashing fall'.
Almost every fall is described as 'crashing'-although only about 10/15% might qualify for that description.
