Hi there. I had some lay bets down on the place market for Killarney Race 1 today.
Horse no. 19 (Ballyoisin) was scratched and at the time I remember was paying around 5.00 in the Win market. Bookies were paying around 4.00 and their deductions were about 20c.
Being a late scratching and what seemed like one of the favourites at the time, why was there a 0% reduction factor applied? This doesn't make sense to me. I lay all the time and would have expected a significant reduction. If someone can help out that would be appreciated.

I presume it was a reserve that wasn't needed, judging by its position on the card (19/21), and the weight it was set to carry. But if you lay all the time on Irish races with reserves, you presumably know how the betting on those races work when a reserve that is prominent in the betting isn't needed. Britsh races don't have the reserve system, except on special days like Shergar Cup day.
So bookies will take a deduction of 22c for a reserve horse but Betfair won't? :-S
I don't know, but to a British punter (like me) it's an odd system to have a reserve prominent in the betting. Betfair are entitled to have their own rules for their own markets. Reserves could well need special treatment in some way, because they're not a 'normal' withdrawal if they're not needed (to my mind). If you play in markets which include reserves, you need to know what those rules are. Maybe you should ask on the Irish forum?
I can confirm that the horse was a reserve.
If you look at the 4.55 at Killarney, the reserves 16,17 and 18 are all non-runners, and all have reduction factors of 0.0%, so I'd say it's standard.
