Not my area of expertise, but I'd guess there is a grain of truth in what the OP says. I think hacking is already a major problem that is difficult to deal with. In this I include "fraudulent documents". My unsubstantiated view is that there are a myriad of dodgy MOTs, driver's licences, nhs numbers, etc. floating about the UK.

Also, it seems the internet and all its attendant boffins and geeks could prove self-defeating and suicidal long term. I get this from the likes of Steve Woznak, S. Hawkings, and Elon Musk.
They are much cleverer than myself and are better positioned to know what's going down.
