I just contacted the Betfair Helpdesk to report that I cannot get access to Australian horse races and the chap was unaware!!!! Doesn't give you much confidence in the service!
Report Breedingmad • May 7, 2015 6:58 AM BST
Yes especially if nobody reports it.

Me too..

May have something to do with this.

Please be aware that there is a planned maintenance scheduled for Thursday 7th May 05:00 – 06:30 (BST) during which time bet placement on the Sportsbook will be unavailable.

The Exchange and all other Betfair products will be unaffected.

Rest assured, we’ll do our best to complete this upgrade as soon as we can.

Re Australian betting - I am finding a reference to the Australian authorities requiring proof of identification for clients outside of Australia. I have no idea what that's about !  Betfair writes about sending various proof items, signed by a local dignitary - unbelievable !!!
Am I reading this correctly ?
Report davidr • May 7, 2015 10:58 AM BST
Are you saying that Australia is going the way of HK for overseas residents betting there?
Report Gog • May 7, 2015 11:11 AM BST
I don't know what I'm saying. I am simply quoting something I read on the Betfair site. Just look at the page where you do the transfer. Read stuff at the bottom.

This is what I get when I try to access my Australian accounts page:

"We are unfortunately experiencing an unscheduled site outage. We are working feverishly to return to normal service. N.B. Our UK markets are still available to bet on. Thanks for your patience and our sincere apologies."

Be Pro-Active -
Verify Your Identity
Betfair Horse Race

You do not have to wait to be asked to complete the process. We encourage customers to do this in order for you to benefit from being able to access the complete range of Betfair products once your details have been verified. We hope that you find this variety of methods to complete this process helpful. But if you do have any questions please email us at kyc@betfair.com.
Australian wallets / Australian markets

Why do I need to verify my identity before I can withdraw funds from my Australian wallet?

Betfair was granted an Australian licence in February 2006. Under the terms of this licence, money wagered on Australian markets must be held by Betfair in Australia.

As of August 2006, Betfair has introduced 'wallets', which are separate pools of money that you use to bet on either Australian or non-Australian markets. By creating wallets, Betfair is able to hold funds in Australia with which you can use to bet on Australian markets.

As part of being compliant with the Australian regulatory environment, we are required to validate the name and address details provided by you on your account. This will enable you to continue betting on Australian markets through your Australian wallet.

How do I complete the Identity Verification Process?

If you have funds in your Australian wallet, or you would like to bet on Australian events in the future, you will need to provide us with documents CERTIFIED by a community leader, (i.e. teacher, councillor, doctor, dentist or similar). In order to certify your documents, you must do the following;

1. Print or photocopy each of your documents.

2. The certifier must write on each page “I certify that this is a true copy of the original document”, followed by their name, signature and rank/title.

3. These certified documents can then be scanned/photographed and sent to us.

Please email a certified copy of one document from each of the following categories:

Personal Identification – a copy of one the following photo ID's:

    Passport
    Driving License
    National Identification Card

Address Verification – a copy of one of the following:

Utility Bill (less than 3 months old)
Bank Statement (less than 3 months old) Shocked
