Do forumites take their holidays from work to fit in with the racing.

In early working life I did, as I worked my way upwards the advent of flexitime came in and I was able to see all the big meetings by working until 1pm each day and taking the afternoon off, as the years rolled on was able to attend most meetings as a guest or host which was the best time of my working life, made a bad call and gave it all up for an easy life to early, should have kept on enjoying it, but hindsight is a wonderful thing...!

How old are you now cork and when did you give up work

Not far off the old six zero, first gave up work when I was just into my thirties, which was an ill judged decision on reflection, then repeated the move when I was 41 and been idling away my time volunteering and doing people favours ever since...!

I'm fortunate enough to have had a massively successful career in the industry, mostly through hard work and a touch of brilliance and can therefore combine both.

Rarely go racing much these days though - too many ghastly people around.

In recent years I've often caught the deadly "cheltenham flu"......this year the trades fell in Aintree week so I avoided the dreaded gastro-aintree-itis.Goodwood usually falls in the summer trades(ross-shire)....last year I broke my arm(two hairline fractures) just before Royal Ascot...... not sure what's going to happen this year

Its really weird, every Cheltenham week i always seem to get the flu?

A mate of mine who i work with had planned a little bit of sick (ahem) just before the World Cup started.....he came into work looking as white as a sheet holding is arm. I originally thought he had had a stroke as he was leaning to one side pouring with sweat....i asked him what he had done and he said he tripped over his front garden wall.

Turned out he had broken his arm about 3 hours earlier but got dressed and came into work to let them know it was genuine.....i swear to this day he did it on purpose just for the time off

My holidays and requested days off this year consist of 18 days for York, 17 days for Cheltenham and 5 for the royal meeting, thank god I don't do any other meetings as I don't know were the time off would come from.

looking forward to a week on Wednesday.

I usted to enjoy going racing in the box..............but was allways worried abt the horse.............there was a 2 box where it was allmost in the cab

When I lived in Scotland from 1957 to 1966 I was fortunate that the Trades Holidays meant that I could travel overnight to London on a Thursday and have Friday/Saturday at Sandown for the Eclipse meeting fit in a couple of days at Newmarket and other odd ones and finish up at Ascot for the King George meeting. Now it would not be possible as dates have been changed.
Later when I lived in London again I quickly on the first day back at work in the New Year put in for days off for the first Wednesday in June, Tuesday and Friday of Royal Ascot and opening day at Goodwood. 
Now I always try to fit meetings in wherever I go on Holiday

I am the other way round as like Mustang I don't need to work. I don't go away for Cheltenham and Aintree but can't be bothered about the flat.

6 weeks today Royal Ascot starts .

I have a weeks annual leave for Cheltenham and a weeks flexi leave for ascot. Any of the other big meetings I usually just finish work early.

I used to do. No need now.

I dream of doing that barstool. Now earn more from gambling than my job but can't give it up just yet, few more years maybe!

I certainly remember when most punters would take the day off on Derby day when it was on a Wednesday.
