Thankfully I kept the faith - having also backed it in the Hennessey I couldn't get out of my mind the guts it showed to win that race.
Last minute decision however as I thought the ground had gone against him and the Betbright Cup form not working out. Couldn't believe some people thinking pre-race it wasn't a sound jumper - had no worries about it getting round (subject to normal luck in running). Welcome change in luck following a severe case of seconditis over the last couple of months! |

When they said he was going for the race i thought i was going to have to be on it. Looked at his aintree record...thought maybe he's always over the top this time of year, left it. Very likeable connections so was nice to see him win anyway.

Big backer of him ante post for the rsa last season, had a small ap bet on him for the hennessey but his 7lb raise put me off backing him nearer the day.
Saver on him in the Gold Cup as i was ball deep on Coneygree. (this all can be found in the ante post forum) Not a penny today, i would had been a max bettor if the ground was g/s today |

Lead on - would you think it would be the whiskey talking if I said I got the exacta up as well!
11 April 2015 16:07:00 Aintree R5 16:15 Exacta 1st Place: 2,20,24 2nd Place: 2,20,24 6 2.00 12.00 Bet settled 2733.80 PS This is not meant any type of gloat as I've been on a horrible run and the win today does not recover my losses over the years but I suppose that's the beauty of the game we all love. I just need to concentrate on Grade 1/2 races and cut out the dross. Enough of the life story - well done other winners and best of luck to all. |

Don`t look at the going description for the National Course today. You will kick yourself. |

Fair point AG, times (after) make it better than g/s thou.
Goings have decided my bets this season; Biggest bet at chelts; Nicols Canyon 2nd; Coneygree cant argue, did well, but i fell for the comments that said he (NC) needed soft ground ![]() Forgot the flat speed bit. ![]() |

good stuff whisky - I like it .
I understand your reasoning with the better horses for backing purposes as they are all 'trying' with the prize money on offer and the form seems to work out a lot better but I feel that these races can be the hardest to find value as the horses seem to run to form imo . good luck mate , you seem an honest and decent chappy ![]() |

Wasn't having a go,WHISKYTALK...just a smile at your name.I backed him for last years RSA
,The Hennessey ,the Gold Cup in every multiple bet since the Hennessey and talked myself out of him today .Delighted for his stable and for those who kept the faith like yourself, though. |

backed him Gold Cup, missed him today (weight, age, ground, coming off the back of a hard race - not gonna be too hard on myself as if it had been the trainer's call he probably would n't have run today).
Anyway, back to this year's Gold Cup - the fifth, sixth and seventh have all won races within the last week and Holywell ran a smashing race on Thursday too - and Smad Place's effort was respectable - so: a) the form looks very good and b) it was n't that attritional that it got to the bottom of some of the also rans. |

Thanks Zealot - much appreciated.
imho, I'd rather have the confidence in being able to weigh up the form on offer and also that in 9/10 the horses are trying to win against any perceived value in odds. In addition, I get far better enjoyment from watching better class racing. PS if your response is anything to go by (and Fashion's well done) I may come on here more often - have been a friendly observer to date but too much vitriol for my liking. |
|
By:
Lead on - didn't take your response as having a go.
Sorry you didn't back it. I nearly didn't myself. Hope you have better luck next time - given the gracious way of dealing with this bad luck I'm sure you will. |

just stick to saturday and big race festivals, 99% triers, races priced to 100% in the pricewise column, your own fault if you dont win, get some unreal value, midweek dross unbearable for me now.
Enjoy tonight, hope it involves a few beers and some nice fillys ! |

Signed in, feel sick. He must have ran well below his form and true ability in the Gold Cup to win off a weight that high :(
