Remember when Godolphin aimed high? The annual entrant in the Kentucky Derby and the Arc? What happened? C. Appleby has a couple of decent a/w horses, I wonder if he can keep the momentum going

Talking sensibly, this is a big year for him. In the past two years his flat statistics and big raced wins are not as good as Bin Suroor or his training peers. However, it takes time for anyone to make changes, and this years AW provide hope. Guess we will see.

Godolphins unwillingness to use Coolmore stallions has cost them - there only Galileo won them a Derby and sired an Oaks winner (New Approach) and both their flagship sires Dubawi and Shamardal have USA pedigrees best suited to AW

there are any number of Derby winners (Shirley Heights, High-Rise, Commander In Chief, Dancing Brave, Roberto, Mill Reef} on dam's side of Dubawi's pedigree, so incorrect to label it a USA/AW pedigree |

He had a load of decent looking 2yos 2 years ago and I dont think any of them done anything at 3.
Hes got a nice colt in Latharnach I think for this season. |

they had a galileo colt beating in france the other day ,the boys in blue that is ,but the yellow and blue colours that won the uae derby belong to one of the maktoum family and yet they have always purchased x coolmore more horse's ,not to mention who newapproach and teofilo daddie is ,so lpigget do i presume who have a couple of share's in some aw horse's and that villain mr appleby keep's winning all those races on u .Lets not forget the prize money is going up and the better horse's are going to keep coming ,the ? is when will the first AW group 1 be , 5 years , 10 years who know's but it will happen

Godolphin and most of the biggest owners have always run expensive purchase and well bred home breds on the AW and if they have a choice of working a horse at home to do a piece of work for nothing, or send it to get the racing experience in what often amounts to a gallop with prize money at an AW tracks then they are going to do the latter.
It's not really "fair" with respects to the spirit of one of the reasons why AW was originally introduced but that's they way of the world and racing is no different. |

Godolphin main trainers hardly ran horses on AW between Dec-March until this year.
Their routine usually ended mid November. The latest AW UK run was 22nd Nov (2006) and winners 18th Nov (2009). This period Dec-March 2014-15 Suroor has had 5 winners from 18 runners Appleby has had 58 winners from 158 runners That makes 63 wins from 176 runners Charlie Appleby has used apprentice claiming jockeys to good effect with 25 of his 58 winners. It will be interesting to see how the AW winners perform on flat. |

Cant understand why they've jocked Kirby off for the glamour boys tommorow? Would of thought they would of wanted to keep him after all his experience of the horses and the aw this winter. Doesn't make sense. Not sure what to make of Doyle being on Hidden Gold (in my opinion the best horse on the aw this winter) in the last. I've had a couple of hundred on @ 9/2 antepost, but I see she's drawn one which I hate at Lingfield, even over 2 miles. Hopefully she'll still win despite this and Doyle.

Interesting to see how many of the hotpots win tomorrow. I suspect bookmakers will not mind them winning all season if they get turned over on the 'big day'. No doubt Mapletoft will be talking this up as if it is Royal Ascot. |

ATR sunday forum had a guy last week saying godolphin were going to have a great year, said they have made big investments..............im sorry but they have been doing this for 20 years..............what godolphin have learned is that their group 3 horses can win group 1's in dubai and australia..............they should pack in europe and america and concentrate on those two.

With a vast number of these types who run like there sire line, even Charlie nice but dim can see that many of the will be at their best on the AW
Very little evidence to back this up statistically btw...Dubawi has strike rate of 16% Turf and 19% AW (average SR of all UK & IRE horse population on each is 10.5% Turf and 11% AW)...however, Class 1/2/3 races comprise just 13% of his AW haul, compared with 34% on Turf, suggesting better overall SR on AW is down to nothing more than mopping up lesser races In addition, ChAppleby & Bin Suroor both boast 29% SR on AW versus 15% & 17% on Turf respectively, which will obviously have some small effect on the stats of 'Godolphin' sires |

I wonder if Appleby is aimed at being Godolphin's All Weather specialist trainer.
His 14% strike rate on the turf last year was abysmal by Godolphin standards but on the AW he's doing quite well. |

this lingfield card is designed specifically for dogolphin................seven conditions races which they specialise in. For the money on offer its a pisspoor card but beach freaks will lap it up and think its the greatest meeting ever. I'll stick to Musselburgh thanks very much
