Report sageform February 28, 2015 3:55 PM GMT
Very good. I kept looking at Wayward Prince as I used to follow him blind but in the end I left the race alone so great to see him win again.
Report sageform February 28, 2015 3:57 PM GMT
Hardly hidden! Ran in Gold Cup, Betfair Chase and many other good races. Old horses usually have some injuries that hurt them most of the time but he was clearly back near his old self today.

Very Well Done.

Wayward Prince I had thought gone completely Sour from being given too many tough tasks. 2nd in the Charlie Hall to Harry Topper, he had plummeted down the weights and in this very race 12 months ago on a track that should suit him based on Aintree and Wetherby Form he was out the back and struggling under top weight, This season he returned in the Charlie Hall in which he raced closer to the pace and was just not up too that level anymore, since then he has been raced out of the back making him lose interest and well beaten pulling up and as a result the handicapper like so many (me included) thought after the Charlie hall (ran well for a large chunk of the race) had his heart well and truly torn out and was now just the owners pride and joy of a interest. 21 days ago what we saw was lifeless ( I can understand Haydock soft) in which he should have ran better then he did. Then low and behold on drying ground, he gets in on bottom weight, carrying 2lb more then his weight and bolts up, in which he was always in the van, yes he had a massive swing in the weights with the useful yardstick Night in Milan (who is a credit to racing) but surely questions have to be asked about that run just 3 weeks ago, I can understand if it was won like that after 90 odd day absence where they can get him refreshed, the run was only a few weeks back and there was nothing (it wasn't that bad at Exeter), he was held up out the back and not running on merit. Why does the handicapper not take note of his running style? When has he every recorded a decent run held up!!

Its things like this that makes it almost impossible to discount any horse, suppose that's why he was SP 25-1, as he had everything in his favour bar his wellbeing, which after today is clearly still intact.
