Gigginstown fine...going to happen if you regularly run two with a chance

The great John Porter, arguably the greatest trainer in racing history, stated in his biography that during his lifetime training he only sent out 5 horses that he thought were certainties and 4 got beat. Horses make a fool of people.

Chapman has it dead right, there is nothing stopping any punter backing bot(or more) horses in the same ownership. Punters who come on here moaning are really just complaining and moaning about there own gambling capabilities which are basically non.

Can't believe people are slagging Gigginstown off for running two horses in a Graded race and trying with both of them.

Barton You need to learn a lot about Irish racing
Report punchestown February 26, 2015 9:15 PM GMT
Gigginstown were not always the best in class but these days are probably the straightest of the big operations out there, vast majority of their horses run on their merits,M O'L wants it that way, even some of the less "straight forward" Happy Trainers don't mess with his hosses.

Think Barton got it spot on tbh...
Report duncan idaho February 26, 2015 10:04 PM GMT
agree with Barton

I know a reasonable amount about Irish Racing. And I have seen plenty of suspect races. I posted on here about the novice hurdle the other day that was an absolute disgrace. Two well backed triers handed between ten and 50 lengths by the rest of the field almost immediately. But I can't see an issue with running two horses on their mertis and the bigger priced horse winning.

This operation own lots of nice horses, they don't need to mess with them. Nice horses develop at different speeds and for me this why we see numerous results like this.

One that is more mature wins its bumper but fails to carry its penalty and is beaten by the better long term prospect without the penalty.

There has been compelling evidence of coups landed, in fact what amazes me is the total lack of liquidity on racing in Ireland.

I think MC is right, if in doubt back them both or back the outsider each way as in my opinion it will run on its merits.
Report NOW WE KNOW February 27, 2015 5:24 AM GMT
no compelling evidenceGrin
Report duncan idaho February 27, 2015 8:27 AM GMT
if you're talking about liquidity on here, NOW WE KNOW, i can see several problems:-

1) half the favs owned by two men (O'Leary, Ricci) rich enough not to bother betting...buying 6-fig horses is the gamble for them

b) Betfair tends to attract shrewder players (allegedly!), and many happy to steer well clear of races in which two-thirds arent busy and the winner soon allowed 25-length lead (far, far more clear ldrs early in Ire than GB)

iii) no internet connection/wi-fi in rural areas ie outside central Dublin
Report NOW WE KNOW February 27, 2015 11:03 AM GMT
Yes, I just don't believe there is any evidence of financial in from what has become a pretty common theme.

A horse beaten say 12 lengths on its bumper debut can improve that and more mentally and beat the first string who hacked up first time but giving the penalty away. Its just the way with immature horses with talent.

BB - "I posted on here about the novice hurdle the other day that was an absolute disgrace. Two well backed triers handed between ten and 50 lengths by the rest of the field almost immediately"

I'm very half-arsed about midweek racing nowadays in January & February (sick & tired of those losing months over the years and I've finally learned) so I've missed that dodgy business...can you elaborate please?
