so they should start every meeting half an hour earlier for the sake of the 1 in 500 that is delayed Crazy

Certainly not dark in Exeter at 5.00, as its almost as far south as you can get, in this country

12 would be my ideal start time. Why is 2pm considered the ideal?

it's to keep the bookies open longer !

spend more money with a two start, financially more viable for courses

all the blokes up and down the land who put their bets on in their lunch break are still working @ 12

It's also because the stable staff have to get to the meeting, but you're probably right it's bookie led. Is 2pm the ideal time for horseracing punters or the ideal time for bookies because they have other stuff to put on earlier?

Two gets lunh out of the way at the race course hospitality and lets 4:30pm and 5pm workers get to the bookies plus if it was a 12:00am start it would be finished by 3:30pm

Hate the early starts of late November/December/January Cry

No doubt do TRAINERS, too - who are boxing horses up in the DARK at 6 and 7 am - in order to get them to the Racecourses in reasonable time.
