Think I managed to just about break even on last year's thread, but it wasn't pretty
All selections on a scale of 1 - 10 pts.
3.20 Famous Kid 2pts win @ 4-1
Big sort who was looking thoroughly progressive until bombing out in a valuable HQ handicap when last seen. The concern here is the drop in trip for this half-brother to St Leger winner Mastery, as he looks a strong galloper, however, I'm intrigued by the switch to dirt for him, being by Street Cry, cuz he's got one of them knee curls that Willow reckons all decent dirt performers have! So in the hope that Doyle gets him rocking and rolling from the get-go, I'm hoping he will gallop his rivals into submission, and get our 2015 campaign off to a winning start. Well hope springs eternal...
4.30 Padlock 1pt EW @ 20-1
A bit speculative this one as he looks up against it on the figs on the bare evidence to date, however, his limitations have yet to be exposed, having won easily on his 2nd start following an eye-catching debut, and that win did come at Southwell, which offers hope for this switch to dirt.
5.05 So Beautiful 1pt EW @ 14-1
In poor form at last year's Carnival, however can be given a chance here on his Carnival form from 2 years back, which included finishing runner-up to the useful Await The Dawn off a 9lb higher mark than today's; stable in better form of late.
6.15 Belgian Bill 1pt EW @ 10-1
Looked unlucky not to go close in Heritage Handicaps at Royal Ascot and Glorious Goodwood last year, and can race off a 2lb lower mark here; he has run well fresh at Meydan in the past.
Reportedly in need of the run on debut for MdK when down the field on his reappearance last week and not given a hard time when held; of interest here belatedly trying 6f again since he made his debut over the trip as a 2YO. His best form to date came when beating subsequent Nunthorpe 3rd Extortionist over 5f in a G3 at the Curragh last season, responding well to pressure to get on top close home and shaping as though well worth another try at 6f. Earlier form as a 2YO included a running on 4th (1st of 13 in his group) in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot, again leaving the impression another furlong could suit well. FOY has a wide draw to contend with here, and the run last week didn't suggest a win was imminent, but I've been waiting for him to try 6f again and this is an ease in grade, so gonna take a chance for the minimum stake.
6.15, Magic City 1pt win @ 10-1
Only had the 5 starts at 1 mile and yet to win at the trip but there appears little doubt that he stays the distance well, particularly on his strong finishing 3rd in a valuable 1m Heritage Handicap at Glorious Goodwood, where he had this year's Carnival winner Belgian Bill behind. After a short break MC reappeared in a competitive C2 handicap at Lingfield 13 days ago, and although reported by his jockey to have never travelled, the visual impression was that he shaped well enough, staying on well from the rear but having nowhere to go in the final furlong behind a wall of horses. No doubt he will be dependent on a decent pace and luck in running if Hughes elects to hold the horse up again, but at a double-figure price a chance is taken for the minimum stake.
Good luck all3.20 Fountain Of Youth 1pt win @ 12-1Reportedly in need of the run on debut for MdK when down the field on his reappearance last week and not given a hard time when held; of interest here belatedly trying 6f again since he made his debut
FOY seemed to stay the trip fine but could only plod at the one pace for 5th. But hey, look on the bright side, I saved a point by not going EW. Good to get off to another depressing start...

According to the RP spotlight, mackies, MdK has said the horse still wasn't fully tuned up. I think that will need to be the case, and maybe he wasn't on the best part of the track?

Draw was a slight concern but I hoped he'd have enough to beat this lot. Won well enough lto & I don't mind backing these higher end sprinters a few times once they look like they are getting to form

You did well only picking 2 in the 320 Virgin I had a right good look only to narrow it down to about 10. Think I marginally prefer Hototo but not a lot of them I could rule out with any certainty.

Rightly or wrongly thought Fav would win easy, but was having a decent day til a Bet place only on Plasir killed me, 4th of course. If that won was going big a place...changed to a win gl all.

SORRY GUYS' I NEEDED THAT BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM GTFI. Nice easy pace helped out.
Hope you all have a good winning punt in the last, going to stick a few pounds' on the football, and switch Betfair off, as I am now well up. Once again GL to you all.

Eastern Rules is an interesting runner, dropping to 6f for the first time in his career. I like this angle, and showed enough being dropped right out last time so worth a pop @12 for me.

He was actually the last of my Favourites left in training . To be even running at 9 now after an awesome career seems so have been unfair .
A sad end to an absolute legend of a horse. Real shame.

Seems to have been a bit of a low draw bias on the straight turf track this year when the opposite has been the case in previous years.
Not a lot of pace around Caspian Prince in stall 1 either. Good chance to slip them again I think.

Poor punditry to say that imo, even if he'd been right, cuz if proved correct you've said the first 3 in the betting are the obvious ones and if you get it wrong in spectacular fashion you just look a total @rse!

Stepper Point is overpriced. Of the European horses its form is as good as any.
There is so much pace in the race its untrue i can only envisage a complete burn up and something coming from off the pace.
Sir Maximillian ew for me.

3- Cooptado Sent into an early lead in a G2 over 2410m here earlier in the month, and he kept galloping on well enough when swamped by rivals, beaten just 3 lengths. He formerly raced at the top level in Argentina but like others here he has a major stamina question against his name for this demanding test.
But for me @ 14 to place and 46 for the win gl.

Salutos Amigos in the Golden Shaheen - Been in awesome form out in New York. Looks to have take a step forward this year and I'd expect him to power past this lot.
California Chrome in the World Cup - Everyone's talking up Lea but I dunno...suspect the Chrome will be a bit too strong.
Ertijaal in the SA Classic @ Turffontein - Hamdan owned son of Hard Spun, undefeated in his career won the Cape Derby nicely last time out. This is actually Mike De Kock's most important runner today. Stays unbeat and continues his march to the Durban July and hopefully this time next year he'll be lining up in the World Cup itself.
24/1 aint bad.
