First I want to say I don't follow ANY tipster, and always do my own thing, and only ever have myself to blame when things go awry.
Reading about Tom Segal's two defeats by inches of his selections made me wonder how followers would have done had they backed his selections e.w.,or even place only.As said, not for me,as I don't usually play in those trappy handicaps anyway. However I have noticed over the years that many of his selections finish in the frame, and obviously a fair few don't.

I always have a look at what Segal goes for in the big handicaps because over the years he's picked out a few winners at big prices.

Like you say, they don't always win but often get placed.

mfordy/windsor_boy - would have been retired in the Maldives now - were that a winning alternative.

After all - whenever precious Pricewise tips finish placed - mfordy will have backed them EACH WAY - But ...

When they Win - he was 'all-in''on the nose'

- and when UNPLACED - he has then 'arbed out' for an 'All-Green' profit.
-----------

So SIMPLE.

mfordy - that is.

Obviously there are many that think there is an easy "road to riches",and prefer somebody else to do the hard-work study for them.

2 x 1.5 ew doubles on his 3 tips today returns more than if he picked the 2 winners for the same stake

According to my stats based on Tom Segal since 2007, 1977 selections.....

Backing win only, profit for £10 win stake is £4,244.96

Backing each way, profit for £5 ew is £2,796.65

These stats are based on the early price that was available at the time the tip became available to me i.e. not necessarily his published price.

This should put the debate yo bed.

quite often you see Seagull backing win only in 17 runner handicaps and then going for an unusual EW in a trappy 13 runner event, clueless Laugh

Yes, but Tom possibly backs only 10% of his selections. Force to select in C.4 races, do you think he would punt in them himself, not a chance. So why people gauge his P/L over the years is beyond me. If the person behind the selections is not punting the selections.

Force to select in C.4 races

Complete nonsense unless C4 Have started showing Irish and French racing.

If C.4 have no racing on, he has to select from the channels that have. Like yesterday.

Well Televised races.

All races are televised !

But surely u know where I`m coming from.

Not really, you accuse the man of not betting 90% of his selections, without any proof. Why would he not bet them ? They make a profit and he has the choice of prices, and probably has open accounts that we would all love to have. Your statement makes no sense.

BTW, nearly a quarter of his selections are non-British.

WFT......... hello.......... when do u see P/W advertised when there is no big race meetings on........ Answer is no-where........... nOW UR BEING SILLY....... Accuse........ I know for a fact he doesn`t punt his selections that often........ like Taylor,O,Brien, they all have to work. That`s their investment. They get paid for their selections.

I'm getting a feeling this is a bit like p1ssing into the wind, but I'll try once more.

Why would these tipsters not back their own selections when they know they can make a profit from doing so, irrespective of what other income they might have ?

Once again, your argument makes no sense.

Would you like to name your source of the "fact" that Segal "doesn't punt his selection that often", given that the only person who really knows this is himself ?

Common Sense my dear fellow.............. Common Sense........... those races he has to select from are not good punting opportunities.. It looks like I`m pissing in the wind.

But you're facing the wind, and getting wet ! You need to turn around.

It's no point arguing with idiots, so I'm out.
