I read in quite a decent book he considers the going one of the major factors affecting a horses chances, which of course you don't know ante-post.

He waits till the race as he says he has had too many disappointments in the past
where the horse is not right on the day or doesn't make it to the race due to injuries etc He says the only sensible way is to have a bet o the day when you know for sure the well being of the horse you want to back..pretty sensible advice if your putting a large bet on. |

The reason why I queried your original post is because I lay Ante Post and I can assure you that someone backs his horses!
Good luck to him though - there would be a fair few people in racing out of a job if he was out of the picture. |
