Kendo Nagasaki, Big Daddy, Giant Haystacks, Mick McManus, etc. Pure entertainment for the punters but blatantly fixed. I've watched races for years but it seems now the racketeering is so blatant it is embarrassing.
At what point will 'throwing a race' or not running/competing to win a race become not acceptable?
The concept of not running the race to lower the h/c mark is equal to a premiership football side saying, .... err there is no equivalent as they look to win each match or at worst not lose it.

Jackie Fullerton asked Haystacks if he could demonstrate one of his throws. Haystacks was clearly not the brightest and he picked Fullerton up and threw him at the studio floor.
Catweazle will be seething that he hasn't got a mention.

Speaking of Mark 'Rollerball' Rocco, I went to a night's wrestling in the 80's and during the break I hit to the bar to get a couple of pints for me & my mate.
I was totally unaware as I burst through the doors (to get back to my seat) armed with two pints of bitter that the MC at that PRECISE moment had announced Mark 'Rollerball' Rocco onto the stage and the spotlight at that exact split second was focused on the wrong door onto ME
It was shining in my boat and the entire audience were in bulk at me...I was crimson with embarrassment - I can laugh now but that was a humiliating experience, as if I'd walked in with my balls dangling through my flies!

The difference is the people that run wrestling knows the public know it's fake. The people who run racing know it's bent but don't seem to realise we know as well.
Racing is straighter than it's ever been apart from a few bad apples. Do you really want to go back to the days when jockeys could literally do as they pleased and split the readies after the race.
Horseracing is like an inner city comprehensive with a supply teacher. The supply teacher (the BHA) does her best but the pupils do what they like.
After the 1.00 Lingers I think thats just what they are doing Bilbo! I have never seen so many " bad rides" from so many very capable jockeys. Profiting from losing is the in thing when dross like this is served up on a daily basis. I have said before, when I had a large share in a racehorse the trainer told me it was NOT going to be troubling the judge that day. A 6/1 shot!! Not troubling the judge!!!??!?!?!? She trains no more but has been the subject of an investigation or two. Should have been jailed!
Just to add, I agree with Dave totally, albeit on 95% of what we are dished up on days like these. Very few straight races at all.
Our jockeys are too close to each other. You can have a 4 runner race and three of the jockeys travelled in the same car to the track!
