"Naïve" is not the word I would use.

Watched race and heard comments pre race and all I would say is that I wouldn't start slagging someone off who suggested, all be it with an unfortunate choice of words, that not everything is black and white. As someone who spends a lot of time with horses they can make fools of you but it is generally rare that nothing would have been shown in an animals recent past and in this particular case the drift pre race adds to the conspiracy theories. WM is clearly a highly accomplished and knowledgeable horseman as is RW but lets not forget that this is a business. FWIW I'd suggest that it had shown signs at home but it was felt that this was how it would always be and as they are in business they can't just simply not run the animal. I imagine this was likely relayed to the owner and the decision was made to run as there was not really another option. This is just conjecture and nobody outside of WM and his close circle will ever know. This is racing but I wouldn't say Scotts comments are without foundation.

If the horse had shown any signs they would not have run the animal.

Rich Ricci has enough horses to not need to gamble running one in any race if he does not need too.

Just bad luck here - drift before the off was because no horse ever won grade 1 on hurdle debut and it was simply too short.

^Absolute ball lucks. Had the horse shown any sign of not being right for the race, it wouldn't have run. Neither RR or WM have any qualms about pulling one out if there are any doubts as to a horse's wellbeing.

I not talking about it showing something just before the off in this case. Read the post. I'm just suggesting that it may have had issues and it may have ever been thus and pulling it out today wouldn't have changed that. This may have been as good as they could get it and they'd never know unless they ran it. These are highly strung animals and it can be a very thin line. If WM said it was good enough to run that's good enough for me. It's hardly an outlandish suggestion that it mightn't have been the most straight forward and could have had issues. Like I've said it aint black and white and it's a business.

You're not making sense Joe. You implied in your original post that there was possibly something physically wrong with the horse - you're now referring to its' temperament. Had there been any sign of a physical problem, be assured that every x-ray and scan under the sun would have been been performed. Gone on the days where you judge a horse's wellbeing purely upon their behaviour.

The term,"rancid" leaves no room for doubt.

I'm not referring to it's temperament. I like everyone else on here have no idea what the position was. Of course I know it'll have had the very best of preparation and every medical assessment will have been carried out. It's a gelding and this is a business. If a horse is in the best shape they can get it but there's still the odd niggle they run it pure and simple, it has no bloodstock value. Is it suggested that every single horse that runs is 100% and has never shown any previous physical signs that may cause a concern. I'm not saying it's rancid and like I've said above I defer to WM judgement on the matter and it's running.

So,to clarify the matter,Joe does NOT agree with Scott's ridiculous comment.

would the horse have been backed into 10/1 for Cheltenham (cant remember whether was Supreme or Neptune) if known to have probs? unbelievable thread this...a couple more Grade A plums to add to a very long list on here

walsh said he pulled it up but didnt no what was wrong,surely while galloping in a race a break of some kind is obvious to a top jock,maybe this horse was on a walsh,mullins watch list and the slightest sign of distress ,pain,injury should be pulled up asap

Some comical and ill informed posts on here, the idea that mullins/ricci wouldnt pull this horse out at the slightest doubt of an injury is just  astonishing and then to say that they  knew and thus the horse drifted implying they laid it?



Sorry to see the horse break down and die like that, seemed to be held in high regard, who knows what wouldve happened, not important now i guess.
