Religion is a strange thing, it can bring out the good in good people and the bad in evil people. The thing is it is impossible to prove there is no God, so a lot of people who need something to help them get through life go on believing and very rarely see how ludicrous it is.

Complete atheist, I was excused R.E. lessons and assembly at school and had to stand up in class to deny the existence of God. The R.E. teacher was enraged and told me to get out. I was quite happy about that.

I'm a huge believer in God. I don't push it on anyone. Disappointing that those that don't seem to go out of their way to put down those of us that do.

I think religions a perfectly harmless thing. Where I take issue with it is when it's forced on me both legislatively and socially

I am strictly speaking an agnostic,though I suspect a lot would label me an atheist. The universe came into existence somehow. There must have been a first cause,which you can call God if you must. What I don't believe is that I or anybody else is in a position to know what that first cause was.

Tbf most intelligent Christians aren't fundamentalists any more. They accept evolution and tend to see The Old Testament as allegorical. The New Testament is the key Christian book but Christians were originally a Jewish sect so the Old Testament,the key Judaic document,became part of The Bible.

As a species we are fairly certain in the idea of the Big Bang theory (an act of creation), and we believe in the concept of infinity (everlasting).

We know that we will die after a life span of say 75 years. We do not understand consciousness, memory and a whole raft of other things related to the human species (lets say the human spirit).

Is it hard to imagine that after our mortal existence on planet Earth there may be something else for this human spirit we know nothing about? Particularly as we live in a vast universe, that may be one of many multiverses (many leading Quantum Physicists are religious).

I don't believe there is a God who has a beard and robe and watches us like the ancient Greeks imagined their Gods did. However I do believe there could be something after this mortal existence, and I believe/hope that what follows is determined by how we behave during our time here and now, i.e. some sort of heaven (eternal peaceful rest) or hell (eternal tormented soul). I therefore try to live everyday with that in mind.

Nominally, I'm a Catholic, but frankly I don't really believe at least a third of the teachings.

What I do believe is that there IS a powerful over-riding superhuman force at work in the universe. I also believe that living things are too complex to be just the result of chaos. There is evidence of DESIGN.

Even our top engineering designers cannot help but admire the way this works. We can see too that man's intervention has actually weakened the species ( imo).

Mjk.   I love Xmas it's for kids and family's to get together also love to hear choirs sing,does not mean I have to believe to enjoy those things.    Yes I know it's a Christian festival and for those that believe I have the utmost respect for but I don't.      Like I said earlier my brother was a churcwarden  was also a bell ringer and I admired him for his strong beliefs, he also respected that I did not. . . . The evidence seems to point towards a "big bang" type of scenario and it's pretty much accepted as more or less a fact by scientists.

It's impossible to get your head around though. I think it was likely created by something, which would be "God" I suppose. It's clear that outside of the universe, the laws of physics as we know them break down completely. I'd say that something like the big bang would more than likely be created by some vastly intelligent and capable being but it's probably impossible to speculate on what happens outside of the universe because the laws of physics no longer hold. Anything could be possible. Huge universes exploding out of nothing is very very hard to grasp mentally.

When you say God created something you have to go back and explain how God himself was created though so the argument backfires. Maybe universes can blow up out of nothing outside of the universe. Impossible to know at this point.
